My buddy is getting ready to chamber my 26in 1:8 twist Kreiger barrel for my 6.5x47 build. I really want to shoot the heavier Scenar, Cauterucio, Amax, and Berger VLD bullets out of it, but have read about problems with not having enough free bore for these longer bullets. What OAL of you guys using for this bullets? I need to tell my buddy how much free bore I need so he knows how to ream my barrel. Would finishing my barrel at 24in cause problems with stabilizing these heavier bullets?

My 140 Berger VLD load is 2.8 OAL. No problems out of a 1/8" Rock @ 22"

A 1:8 barrel is perfect for what you want to do. I have been shooting 1:8.5 barrels for a couple of years now. I prefer the 130 grain beans but have shot the 139 Scenars and stablized them fine out to 1000 yards on a warm day. I just believe the velocities are much better with the lighter bullets. The 130's are plenty heavy for steel matches and I gain around 125fps over the 139's.
