I just picked up my first nightforce and i dont know which base or rings to go with. I saw they have the Nightforce Steel rings and Ultra light rings. which one do you prefer. What height is needed for the 50 mm lens. like most people i like it as low as possible. I also so they had 2 different 1 piece bases and i wasn't sure which one is better there. There both 1 piece 20 moa bases just one says 8-40 screws and the other one doesn't say anything?

Re: Which nightforce rings.

What rifle are you mounting to? We need the maker of the action, caliber, and the barell contour as well.

chances are you will not need 8-40 screws.

pretty sure you will need a low ring unless you are using an aics

Re: Which nightforce rings.

Run the .885" Ultralights = they'll work perfectly with a 50mm lens

Re: Which nightforce rings.

I need two sets, one is for a factory Remington 700 BDL 7mm rem mag, and the other is a Stiller Tac 300 broughton #5

Re: Which nightforce rings.

The UltraLight rings are the way to go. Low .885" height work well on all 50mm and most 56mm scopes(less AMU and MTU heavy barrel contours). The problem running the "Low" rings with a 56mm objective is clearance is very tight to get caps on the objective.

For the Remington long action, go with the LA 20moa One Piece base.
The Stiller is going to have to use their base as it is a round top action and requires their proprietary base.

Re: Which nightforce rings.

As others have pointed out, the ultralight rings are great. Measure up the rifle and check your clearance but the low should work.

Re: Which nightforce rings.

You might need to get a 2 piece base for the Stiller Tac 300 which should have come with a 1 piece bass. Stiller told me their actions will not take a standard one piece 700 s/a or l/a base. This is what they told me, I haven't verified it personally. I'm using their base on my Tac 30 whit the shear pins. The threads on the Stiller should be 8-40.
