Anybody else think the new Tennebrex scope covers are another example of over-engineering?

Why the stupid 1/4" lip all the way across the bottom? There is a reason why Butler Creeks only have the two little tabs.

The front cap hangs down so far that even switching from Seekins low to high does not provide enough clearance.

Looks like S & B took a page from the POS Premier 3-15 front cap debacle.

Re: S & B 3-20 Scope Caps

I actually like them. I'm using Badger high rings and have not had any issues. Seem like they will hold up a while.
I've had two sets of Butler Creek caps that broke within the first week. Total cheap crap in my opinion. (I do have some old Butler creek stuff that has held all these years. Possibly just the new stuff they are putting out?)

Re: S & B 3-20 Scope Caps

I could see their utility if you run really high rings/mount, but to those used to a low scope they just plain suck.

Re: S & B 3-20 Scope Caps

Can you rotate them like the Premiers? I had the Premier covers in the past and actually liked the tab when the covers were turned 90 degrees. It provided a nice lip to pop them off. I have a 3-20 on the way, but have not seen these covers yet in person.

Nope. The lip is SO big that clocking it does not do a thing. No matter where you put it, it either won"t close or won't open.

Re: S & B 3-20 Scope Caps

I've broken 3 sets of butler creeks in the last 2 weeks, so I think I'd like to try these.

I think they should work with any 50mm s & b, but I would imagine they will be costly. Mine threaded onto a 4-16x50 w/o issue.

Clocking mine seemed to work fine--have it mounted on an AR though. I love these covers way better than BC. I also like how they fold all the way back.

Re: S & B 3-20 Scope Caps

So can they be timed? Who's carrying them besides Midway? Any Hide dealers?

Butler creeks have been sucking hind teat for a while.

Re: S & B 3-20 Scope Caps

Another thing to consider is that Seekins low rings at .92" make it nearly impossible to mount a 3-20 with a crooked reticle. The clearance between the turret housing and the scope base is so close that if the scope is even slightly crooked, the housing hits the base.

Re: S & B 3-20 Scope Caps

I stand corrected... after a little more trial and error and taking the rubber part of the cover off of the aluminum ring, I was able to clock it just right so it clears.

Its a helluva stout cover. Liking it a little more now.

Re: S & B 3-20 Scope Caps

your .920's work? mine rocks on the housing. tried 1's and slipped .080 of feeler gauge under the housing and its a no-go

A close fit is an understatement...there is an RCH of clearance.

Re: S & B 3-20 Scope Caps

Thats weird, mine rocks on the turret housing with the .920s,,,gonna revist this

Yep, I measured something like 0.018" with feeler gauges between the 5-25 turret housing and a Surgeon 591 rail with Seekins 0.92" Lows.

Seekins low. Badger rail. 003" feeler gauge fit. .004" did not, and I do not have a .0035". Did you push the stack of feeler gauges in from the side of the scope or straight back from the front? If the former, try again from the front and you may get better results (at least with a BO rail with the interrupted slots).

Re: S & B 3-20 Scope Caps

GAP Crusader,Templar action, Im assuming a Badger rail. Seekins .920 rings, 34mm. S&B 3-20 will not seat into the rings period. rocks back and forth on the turret housing. tried a 5-25x56 S&B on the same gun and have .018 clearance between the turret housing and the rail. My conclusion is not all picatiny rail are the same as compared to yours and mine,,WTF?

Re: S & B 3-20 Scope Caps

Im going to measure the depth of the turret housings on both scopes next,,,glad I didnt send these off to paint yet, I installed 1 inch high rings on the same gun and tryed both scopes for fit, there is a noticable difference in clearance between the 3-20 and the 5-25. with the 5-25 being greater,,,

Re: S & B 3-20 Scope Caps

Hi Tom,

I was wondering if you ever had a chance to measure the turret housing on the 3-20 and 5-25 S&B's? I have two 5-25's and run them in low Seekins and only have about 3-4 thousands between the turret bottom and the rail top. I've been looking for a 3-20 and already have a set of low rings to mount it in. I sure hope they're the same so I can keep the scope as low as possible. Thanks, Shane

Re: S & B 3-20 Scope Caps

the difference in the turret housing is the cover/nut thats under the housing. has 2 spanner holes in it to remove. it protrudes further out than the 5-25 which shrinks up the clearance between the bottom of the turret and the rail. My real problem is that the rail was causing my clearance issues. as stated above, its a tight fit. .003-.004
