I have some of these two powders left over from the 30-06 I had and was just wondering, if they could be used at all for .308 or are they just too slow burning? The rifle is a Rem. 700 sps Tac. AAC-SD in .308 with 1:10" twist barrel. I've been using Varget with Hornady 168gr. A-Max with good results but just thought I'd check. Thanks!

My Lyman book doesn't show either powder for any of the .308 rds. It does show H-4831(not sc) for the 200 gr. HPBT

Way too slow. Unless you have a 250 grain .308 bullet you wish to send down range at about 1900 fps. JMHO

Re: H4350 & H4831sc for .308 loads?

I would think based on the performance that I have been getting with RL17(burn rate similar to H4350) and 175gr + pills, that H4350 may work similarly. I think you would probably see best results with 185gr. pills and up. Due to the burn rate of the powder, it will be hard to get enough in the case to drive the lighter(175 and under) pills to any useful velocity.

I would give it a shot under 190 SMK's. That may make for a nice load.

Go with Varget! The good old stand by!!! It is great stuff...

I use 4831SC for the .270 Win and H4350 for the .260 Rem.

Dont waste your time. They really are too slow. I did have some great rds with IMR4350 and 168gr and heavier in warm/hot weather. But not in cool weather.
