Heah guys. I'm a newbie and I know this question gets asked a lot, but I'm needing a little help with ring selection. I just purchased a Tikka Scout with 0 moa base and will be mounting a Vortex 4-16x50. The bell on the scope is 2.26" and the Badger medium rings are .823" which means I need my base at least .307" tall if i go with mediums. ( 2.26/2 = 1.13. 1.13-.823=.307). Am I figuring this right?

Also, another problem is I dont have the rifle in hand yet and can't find any info on the base height. Does anyone happen to know the base height on the Scout?

Re: What size Badger rings?

(2.26/2)-0.823=0.307 doesn't mean that you need a base of 0.307. It would be a distance to a straight line off of the top of your action. You may have noticed many scopes shapes follow the contour of the rifle. It is also possible for scope bells to sit below this line. Barrel contour, and fore/aft mounting plays a role as well.

Browtine,

I have a 700 SPS-T with a Badger 0 MOA base and their .823" rings mounting a Leupold 6.5-20 x 50. Same rings, 20 MOA base, and scope worked on a 5R milspec. Both had room for the Butler Creek caps.

Thanks guys! Once my scope arrived, I did the stacked coin method and ordered the med-high Seekins. The medium Badgers were going to be pretty tight.
