Guys,

Got a few ideas I'm wanting to try on my next build. And I'm thinking about running one of surgeons dbm's. Kinda looking for some feedback on how they function?

Also, are they the same foot print as a badger m5?

Re: Surgeon dbm questions????

I run one and love it, better than my Badger. The footprint is smaller than the Badger, but the two best things about it are the extensions on the Surgeon make it easier to find with your hands when reloading a mag, and the mags just slide in and click like butta. No pushing the mag release to insert a mag or pushing the mag hard towards the release to get them in like with the Badger.

This is not true.

The surgeon is wider at the front because of the more parallel sides.

Re: Surgeon dbm questions????

The M5 has a tapered foot print, wide in the rear, narrower in the front. The M5 has a mag release that I dont care for and is tight fitting where magazines are concerned. The tightness makes mag changes slightly more difficult/slower than the Surgeon DBM.

The Surgeon DBM taper is more even front to rear but does has a very slight taper. IMHO, the mag release is far superior to any thing else on the market and works easily as an ambi release with just the tip of your trigger finger, L or R. It has an extended mag well that guides the magazines in during mag changes and the mags fit looser than they do in an M5 making the changes quicker and easier. The front mag well also works as a stop during barricade drills. The Surgeon DBM can be installed in an m5 inlet with minor mil work.

I use the Surgeon DBM exclusively in my builds unless a client dictates other wise. They're all I run on my personal rifles and all I recommend. AI & AW magazines work with either as long as the receiver has been cut for the AW.

Wm- As long as the Receiver supports the AW mag, the Surgeon DBM needs nothing to run them?

Re: Surgeon dbm questions????

Surgeon DBM will support AW and AICS mags without modification. Only limitation is whether your receiver/action can accomodate either.

Re: Surgeon dbm questions????

Roscoe hit the nail on the head describing the Surgeon DBM.

I have played with and/or owned most of all of DBM configurations made. The Surgeon DBM is still the best on the market by far.

Re: Surgeon dbm questions????

my bighorn with surgeon DBM (AICS mags) and badger m2008 with badger DBM (AIAW mags), both in mcmillan A5s

i definitely prefer the surgeon. also, because i tend to get closer to barricades that most people, and i can slide the gun up til it hits the guard, without crunching the mag

Re: Surgeon dbm questions????

I like that I can see the inside front of the magwell with my left eye while maintaining cheekweld. This allows reloading by sight just as I do with a handgun.

I may be biased, though.

Re: Surgeon dbm questions????

I sure like my Surgeon bottom. I can release the magazine by just pushing the lever with my trigger finger or grabbing the magazine and using my thumb. It's a great system!

Re: Surgeon dbm questions????

I like the Surgeons. I really like their mag release and the guide rail config. I even manually milled out an H&S stock for a buddy so he could run a surgeon DBM on his 308.

Re: Surgeon dbm questions????

I used the Surgeon DBM bottom metal on a build this winter, and am rather smitten with it for all the reasons listed above. It's simply a clean, elegant, well-designed and well-manufactured component.

Re: Surgeon dbm questions????

I have Surgeon bottom metal fitted to the t4 on my primary calling rifle. I've also got the LA version for the t4a for my 300WM build I'll be starting this next weekend.

I can't say I've used any other brands, but I can't imagine any of them are vastly superior. The mag release is positive and doesn't stick out where it can hang up on stuff. The extended well is nice.

I still haven't figured out how to get perfect inletting with the end mills I have, tho. It does have some funky corners.

Re: Surgeon dbm questions????

I had a badger, switched it out for a surgeon. I really recommend surgeon dbm's they can't be beat. I will be getting another one for my next build.

Re: Surgeon dbm questions????

Roscoe built my rifle and it has the Surgeon DBM. I have played and ran a few diff styles. These are hands down my favorite.

Re: Surgeon dbm questions????

All of this love for the Surgeon DBM got me to order one today. I want it now. I want to play with it. That is all...

Picked up a 700 adl with the old style trigger. I'll be removing the factory bolt handle and welding on a Holland handle. Just gonna true it and run it.

Barrel is a 10 twist Brux m24 I bought from Bugholes
