Hunting & Fishing APA vs Africa videos

Re: APA vs Cape Buffalo Video 1

I'd recommend the 300g if your gun will handle them. That is if you are shooting anything that's even remotely large. I did a little side test on one of our Buffalo carcasses. I shoot into the shin with a Trophy Bonded Bear Claw at 5 feet. It didn't exit. That told me right there what I did and didn't need.

Re: APA vs Cape Buffalo Video 1

Taking nothing but plains game, warthogs and baboons this trip. The following safari I'll stoke up the 300gr bullets. I'll have croc, hippo and buffalo on the menu. I'm hoping Barnes will clear up this crap w/the government and start selling banded solids again.

Re: APA vs Africa videos

Here is another Buffalo video. This one is long. I figured I would give you guys more of the hunt this time. I know the instant gratification guys just want to see it die but these hunts take a long time. We typically spot some tracks and follow them if they look good. This should be a little more realistic. If you guys would rather see short and to the point videos just let me know.

Re: APA vs Africa videos

This zebra footage is only 3 minutes. The exact opposite the last one. Give me some feed back. Do you guys want to see the hunt or just the shot?

I know the title is wrong. I'm reloading now and I'll get the new link up when she's ready.
You can view this one for now.

Re: APA vs Africa videos

Love the zebra one Jered, I'm at work on wireless and it takes forever to load so the short vid is nice. On a good, fast connection I prefer the longer videos.
Did he have to shoot the zebra again or was it down with the 1st shot? Did he use the Woodleigh bullet? My last trip I shot a Burchells, next year the Mountain zebra is on the list. Those things are a blast to hunt!
Thanks for the new videos.

Re: APA vs Africa videos

He didn't have to shoot it again. it was a perfect heart shot. He shot it with the 300g Woodleigh soft point round nose. They are pretty frangible and made a mess of his insides. Mine did the same thing. Everything seems to run when you hit it regardless of where you hit them and what you hit them with. I'm sure you have seen that yourself. It's very rare to see a DRT shot over there.

I'll try to reload the video of the Buffalo and make it shorter. I pretty much figured the answer before I did it. People cruising youtube don't want to sit there for 19 minutes. The actual footage we have is 10 times better than what you see on youtube but you can only upload so much.

I had to delete the video and start over on the zebra. It stopped the new upload b/c it was already there and wouldn't do A duplicate so now we wait once again. These take forever to upload.

Re: APA vs Africa videos

For me I like the process of the hunt and seeing you all walk through the tall grass and looking for tracks and strategy so the longer video was my fav. Bet it is a rush hunting something so dangerous and powerful. I think I should plan an african hunt. Would you say that the cape is the most dangerous herbivore you have ever hunted? I really have no experience with african game.

Re: APA vs Africa videos

I would have to say the two legged North American Split tail was probably the most dangerous but the #2 slot would be the Cape Buffalo. That's as far as what I've hunted personally. I'm not an African expert by any stretch though. From what I've seen and heard hunting Hippo on land is pretty hairy at times. Once they acknowledge the fact that you are smaller than they are, they are coming. Buffalo aren't like that unless you get around some cows with their calves. They are going to try and avoid you until you injure one and then is when it gets interesting. A hippo is a hippo. They are very likely to come after you simply b/c you got too close. That is dealing with an animal that can be very sketchy and that's always dangerous.

Besides that screwing up and making a bad shot is dangerous for everyone. To truly understand how fast a big cat can move you need to see it with your own eyes to truly believe it. They can move so fast that your eye has a hard time tracking them in the bush. Almost like a 90 mph fastball coming down the pipe at you. You can see it but your eyes can't truly lock onto it and it has big teeth and claws. Add all that together and the fact that your holding a camera makes it a moment you'll never forget.

I wanted to sit down and make a list of what to bring and what not to bring in my eyes. At some point I'm going to do that on this post.

Re: APA vs Africa videos

I'll tell ya what I'd bring to hunt in Africa, a MK19. The scariest thing we have in Oregon are toothless Honkey Tonk specials

Re: APA vs Africa videos

This is the last one I'll post. It pretty much just sums up the trip. It's a clip from the beginning of the DVD and the closing clip.
