i got a new barrel for my 6.5x47 lapua ,so last week i was fire forming cases and testing some loads and all was fine . this weekend i was testing some more in the fine tuning for last weeks loads and i cant get the damn thing to shoot . i went over all my equipment today and noticed that i had the expander ball on my neck sizing die . my neck sizer is uses a bushing and my cases have been turned , took off .005 . so any way i left the expander ball on for when i turned the cases and for got to resize them with out the ball is it possible this messed up my neck tension and screwed up my accuracy . sorry if im all over the place with my post its been a long day of frustration

Re: expander ball ?

Throw the expander ball away when using bushing dies. The bushing is designed to size the neck to the size you want and when you pull the expander ball back through it then expands the neck to whatever size it is.

I ignored that the brass will spring back a bit but the above still stands.

Thanks alot man that's what I thought

Re: expander ball ?

Just use the expander ball on new brass to get the dents out. Then remove it.

Re: expander ball ?

As long as the turned necks fit in the chamber youre good.

As for the neck tension I doubt you messed anything up enough to affect accuracy. With your turned necks and the bullet you wish to use, make a dummy round, measure the outside neck diameter of that dummy round and start with a bushing .002 smaller than the measurement.

No expander ball on any bushing style die.

Re: expander ball ?

What happens if I get a dented in case mouth? Just change the expander ball back on for those cases? I've been wondering about this for a while.
