    Hey ya'll,

Not sure whether I should put this here or in the Smith'n section, but I'm hoping somebody can help me. No, I've no intent of turning this into an arFcom site, and I also have no intent on stepping on anyone's toes.

But, what I am doing, is looking for a set of builders plans for an Armalite AR-10 Upper. This is so that I can machine one for myself. I do have access to the machines to do so, as well as billet material for this. No, I'm not looking to manufacture anything for sale. This is just for my own use, and yes it IS legal up here for me to do so.

I have been given a set of plans for an AR-15 once, in some sort of (.igs) format [which really is of no use to me, as I can't open it anyways].

So, if anyone has any ability to help and/or direct me to a venue, I'd appreciate it.

    Thanks, in advance.

I've got the lower, and it's built up already. Just need an upper to put on it, and go from there.

    Re: AR-10 Upper Prints,

I believe that the AR15 plans are easier to come by as an AR15 has a true mil-spec and therefore is built by several different companies to the same dimesions. I would speculate that because the AR10/LR308 platform is completely different and has no mil-spec standard it may be much harder to get the "specs" for their respective uppers as each design is proprietary. I am not an expert, but would imagine it is going to be difficult.

    Re: AR-10 Upper Prints,

I appreciate your comments, Roboto, but I think that is why I specified the "Armalite" AR10.

From what I'm understanding, Armalite will only fit with Armalite, whereas most other uppers will fit with 'most other' lowers. Or something along that line.

    Re: AR-10 Upper Prints,

You can find CAD models on "GRABCAD" and download them for your own use.

    Have at it.

    Re: AR-10 Upper Prints,

    c_bass, thank you.

It could very well be that I'm doing it wrong, but I'm not finding anything that I'm searching for. There's a number of Lowers that I've seen, as well as a couple DPMS Uppers, and even a DPMS Upper forging.

But if you can direct me to what I really AM looking for, I would hugely appreciate that.

    Really. Thanks,

    Re: AR-10 Upper Prints,

If you check out GrabCAD they do have a AR10 lower. You need either solid works or AutoCAD 2013 with a plug in to view it. The .igs format is the AutoCAD format. I have to load 2013 tomorrow on my puter. I will see if i can render it. If i can i will let you know.

    Re: AR-10 Upper Prints,

Just to be exceptionally clear here, I am on the search for:

    <span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="font-size: 14pt">Armalite AR-10 <span style="text-decoration: underline">Upper</span></span></span> plans.

And any/all help in this quest is greatly appreciated. I have the Lower, it is the Upper that is needed.

    Re: AR-10 Upper Prints,

you can extrapolate the bottom part from the lower it has to mate, the rest can be derived from the bolt and carrier itself and another non-Armalite upper.
lots of work ahead of you.
sorry if this doesn't help much

    Re: AR-10 Upper Prints,

    So, guys,,,,

Am I asking the wrong question, or asking it in the wrong forum? Really, any help is appreciated.

    Sean.

    Re: AR-10 Upper Prints,

You seem to be missing the point; it's very likely such drawings aren't made publically available. Not trying to be an ass here, but unless somebody has gone through the work of reverse engineering an Armalite upper, I highly doubt Armalite has ever published their drawings. Why would they?

    Re: AR-10 Upper Prints,

    Missing the point? hmmmmmm

In all my searching, I have found copy after copy after copy of Lowers all-over-the-place. I have also found a fair number of DPMS uppers, in quite a few different locations, also.

But the one thing that I haven't found, is the Armalite AR-10 Upper, anywhere. And I am surprised at that. Especially considering that this item is so old, is it not?

I'm not looking to manufacture for sales, or anything like that. I'm looking to see about me making myself one. As explained above.

And it just surprises the heck out of me, when what I'm trying to do seems so 'impossible'. Are you telling me that I'm the first one in the western hemisphere to attempt this?

    Re: AR-10 Upper Prints,

I'm willing to bet the reason why you see so many lower plans is because people want an unregistered gun. The reason why you likely aren't seeing many AR10 uppers as opposed to the DPMS uppers is because the DPMS pattern is becoming the industry standard. The 3 local manufacturers that I know of making their own .308 based receiver sets are all using the DPMS pattern.

    Re: AR-10 Upper Prints,

That's all find and dandy, except for those who DO have registered Armalite lowers. That, and the availability of said Uppers in these parts, is low low low.

    Hence, the quest.

    Re: AR-10 Upper Prints,

Check out cncguns.com I believe that's an armalite I donthave remeber but someone in that forum is bound to have a set of prints

    Re: AR-10 Upper Prints,

Since there's no mil-spec standard Armalite may have never released those plans publicly. And since no one is copying their lower, apparently no one has bothered published plans of their copies. Just guessing here. If you can't find em sitting there with all the others there is a reason.
