Hi, does anyone know how well a 26" heavy remington barrel would compare against a custom barrel like a schneider, lets say at a distance of 1,000yards what would the distance in accuracy be?

Re: remington 700 barrels

Too many variables to answer that question. In general, a custom barrel will take out the variables of a factory barrel and be more consistent and that consistency will lead to better accuracy at longer ranges. You might get a decent factory barrel, you might not. Getting a good custom barrel is definitely a better bet.

This is probably about the best you can expect from a remington barrel out to 300yds,(308SPSS) you wont see too many remington barrels that will out shoot a match barrel. A good match barrel will put 10 shots inside 5" measured vertically.

Re: remington 700 barrels

You may get a shooter you may not, this is out of my Lapua at 833yds cold bore shot on a clean barrel and with the second follow up shot and they are touching. This is with the barrel that came on the weapon from the factory with no changes to anything except for a different brake, stock and bolt knob.

Re: remington 700 barrels

225gr Nosler Accubond bullet, HSM Case, CCI magnum primer, 91grs H1000, 2995fps. My 308 shoots just as good and it is a Remington SPS Varmint with the same things changed out on it. Except for the flash suppressor that I had to have the barrel threaded for (26in barrel). Both rifles are in AICS with no glass beding and there has been no action work or trigger work, stock triggers that came with the rifles. The AI chassis system just makes it alot more accurate rifle. If you check out Remingtons website and look at their military weapons they produce their M24AI, which is the M24 rifle system in the AICS.

Re: remington 700 barrels

Truly depends on the factory remmy barrel. My factory remmy 700 .308 barrel is a <1/2 MOA shooter with factory FGMM 168's.

Some other people's rifles are 1.5<.

I think I wouldn't benefit too much from a new barrel, the guys with 1.5MOA< definitely would.
