I have my Rem 700 Sps AAC-SD on the way and I am trying to figure out a stock upgrade, I have been looking at the B&C MEDALIST Vertical Grip Tactical or the H-S Pro Series M-24 Tactical, does anybody have any personnel experience with either?
I have not been able to find them at local gun stores to get an idea what the difference are?

Thanks

Troy

Re: Bell & Carlson vs. HS Precision

I do not have any experience with the HS Precision, but I do have a OD green Bell & Carlson on my 700 AAC SD and with the right ammo I am getting sub MOA if I do my part...Honesty I don't think you could go wrong with either of those two choices, for me the fit and finish of the BC was a little nicer but to each his own

Re: Bell & Carlson vs. HS Precision

fill in where you are from + members may be able to let you fondle these

like above I also prefer the shape of the b+c for prone bipod shooting - the HS shape is a good versatile compromise for hunting/ multiple positions

Re: Bell & Carlson vs. HS Precision

My rifles (both R700 SPS .308's) have shot well with both stocks, but i prefer the B&C a little more. The HS to me felt too light and hollow as opposed to the B&C.

Either one you can't go wrong with but if you could fondle both of them, i would. I made the mistake of just diving in on a HS and ended up hating it. Luckily i got my money back!

Re: Bell & Carlson vs. HS Precision

No question the BC is a nicer built stock. Hollow is how I would describe the HS stocks.

Neither are bad, I just think the B&Cs are built better and are definitely more durable.

Re: Bell & Carlson vs. HS Precision

I've got no experience with the BC stock but I've not been satisfied at all with my HS stock. The aluminum bedding in the stock was off in both axis. After bedding it I was able to correct that issue but prior to bedding, my savage build shot like crap. Bedding it took almost an MOA off of the gun. The other day I noticed that there was a bubble on the bottom of the grip. Of course I pushed on it to see what it was and the finish that they used on the stock chipped. I'm just going to fill it in with epoxy and paint it. I'm sure I could ship it back to HS to have it taken care of, but I've already been there. They do have good customer service, but I would much rather have a better product. This is just my experience.

Re: Bell & Carlson vs. HS Precision

+1 for B&C. Quality seems to be a little better. Warranty is second to none.

Interesting. I would have laid money on HS being the better stock. I always thought B&C was so-so. Learn something new everyday!

Re: Bell & Carlson vs. HS Precision

I have owned three hs stocks. The hs M24 is the one i have liked the best! I had the pst025 but it was very heavy i also had a pss stock that i didnt care for. It was older and had flex in the forend. The long action m24 stock is the one i currently use and it is just right in my opinion i also added a Karsten type A cheek rest. All the hs stock i have owned have had the trigger slanted in the guard. So on this i bedded the action and badger m4 metal and corrected this. B&C stocks are also nice. If you dont need a stock with the adjustable legnth of pull. The b&C is a better buy. Also check out the Choate A5 tactical.

Re: Bell & Carlson vs. HS Precision

Deffinitely the B&C Tactical Medalist. I also prefer them over the other "Hollow" stocks. They just feel better to me. And, that is what is most important. That whatever stock you buy feels right. I do have to mention that the palm swell is pretty wide on the B&C .... I prefer that, but some don't.

Bell & Carlson also have a Fully Adjustable Model. The Medalist Tactical A5 (The one that I have) is a Very Good Tactical Stock.

Actually I believe the HS Palm Swell is actually Even Wider than the B&Cs. I've had a HS Came Stock on my Remington 5R and it was very wide compare to any of my B&Cs.

Re: Bell & Carlson vs. HS Precision

I just wish I would have seen this thread before I bought my HS stock. Prior to my purchase I was under the impression that the HS stocks were better than the BC in quality. I don't have any experience with BC but I guess I was wrong.

One thing that I didn't like when I was looking at stocks about a year ago was the fact that if you wanted a BC stock with a dbm, you needed to have it inletted. I don't know if they offer stocks already inletted or not, but that would be a great way to expand on their market.

Re: Bell & Carlson vs. HS Precision

I've used both the H&S and B&C. I like the palm swell on the H&S better. Beyond that, B&C hands down.

I have a couple of A5's and 2956's. They are solidly build and weighty in the butt to offset the weight of the heavier barrels.

The H-S are hollow in the butt, making them extremely unbalanced.

I've had to bed most of the H-S to correct barrel channel alignment and to get te receiver to fit the milled channel. with B&C, I choose to skim bed and lock in the recoil lug. It has not been a necessity to bed the B&C.

The forend on the A5 is a little more squared, if you like that feel. The 2956 is more rounded.

You'll be very happy with either of those models.

Re: Bell & Carlson vs. HS Precision

I have used many HS stocks over the years, they offer a solid product and great customer service. Find a stock that fits you and is comfortable to shoot. I can only compare my HS stocks to my MCM stocks, they both have advantages, I wouldn't put one above they other as they are different. I like the stock on my HS HTR much better than the stock on my M24, but they both perform very well. They are lighter than my MCM stocks. My MCM stocks of course wiegh more but don't have the "hollow feel" described. I like the aluminum bedding in the HS stocks, so long as it fits you personally, I don't think one will make your rifle shoot better than the other. I think people focus too much on the bow in this instance and not enough on the indian. Both stocks in the right hands will produce amazing results. Neither stock in the hands of those less trained will produce more accurate results. It has more to do with the person shooting the rifle, than the stock. Some people buy into the myth that equipment is going to make up for lack of skill and training, that is simply not the case. Pick a stock that fits you and fits your needs, then work on making it work for you. Ford vs Chevy arguements are silly, the fact is they both get the job done. I like HS Precison stocks and have never had the desire to use a B&C but that is just a personal preference.

Re: Bell & Carlson vs. HS Precision

Haveing a 5R in 223 I went with the HS Vertical the action has the same exact fit as the HS that came stock ... Allot of barrell float which i dont mind at all ... Will allow for a custom barrel in a few years once the stock one is shot out. I have no complaints .. No need to pillar as it has a block .... A skim bedding if you choose too, I havent done it to mine as i have found the need yet.

General speaking HS is considered a step above a BC given materials used, when it comes down too it the only thing that matters is what's comfortable and cost effective for you.

Re: Bell & Carlson vs. HS Precision

Thanks for all the comments the B&C is on its way!
Now to decide if I want to wait for the Nikon M-308 w/ 800 BDC or go with different glass

on that, I would say do not start with a BDC scope - pick mills or moa and learn one system until it comes with little or no thought - a BDC scope teaches little

Re: Bell & Carlson vs. HS Precision

go with one of the falcon menace scopes or hawke is decent as well. I agree 100% with George. Learn mildot or horus or some type of real reticle system.
you will like the BC stock. I have one on my wife's rifle and deep down inside I think it feels better than my aics with the viperskins...

Re: Bell & Carlson vs. HS Precision

I own both and like both. The B&C M40 is a great stock. I would like to see them offer it in solid colors (OD, FDE, Tan, etc). Both are nice stocks until you jump to the Manners or Mcm.

Regards

Dang. Now that takes a real honest man to admit!
