so i have been kickin this around for a while when i saw the chassis thread. it lit a fire under my ass so i called around and pulled the trigger. so the things i wanted
1 quality
2 a company to stand behind it
3 price( with in MY budget)
4 not having to wait 6 months to a year to get it
so i picked the 3 that most peeked my interest.
jae,xlr,mcrees.
everyone i had contact with was awsome to speak and deal with all these company's value and serve their customers very well.so jae right at the upper edge of my budget but what a stock also 10 to 12 month wait just cant do it. xlr i think is still 5-8 weeks not bad and within budget but i have a prs i would like to use and i think you still have to modify them to use them on the xlr. these are also some of the finest chassis made at the moment.last talked to mcrees so i got their g5 ar folder drop mag chassis 494 shipped. ships monday wow thats awsome a great chassis under budget ships within days. so i will try to post some pics. i was just so excited and didnt have anyone to tell( my wife certainly doesnt care...lol) im just a long range recreation shooter so take it easy on me.
ok fellas thanks for reading.

Re: my first chassis

Nice pick up. I ordered one almost two weeks ago and the tracking info has it at my door monday. They were waiting to get more magazines in. Under $600 for the G5 AR folder chassis and 2 - 10 rd .308 magazines shipped is spot on. Scott was great to talk to and answered all my questions. Looking forward to seeing how it performs.

Re: my first chassis

How are you guys getting them so cheap, I thought the g5 folder was closer to like 730$?

Re: my first chassis

yup they were great i spoke with kathy. i have two alpha type 1 mags hope they work allright. im going to get a long action in another couple weeks. got a 300wm i wanna see how it does in one of these. thinking of putting a eindine recoil buffer on the 300wm.see how it works.

Re: my first chassis

ok yea call them direct. thats the way to go.

Re: my first chassis

When I talked to Scott a couple weeks ago he said they were doing some work on their website and it was slow getting the emails from the website to his inbox.

I shopped around for this before finally I talked to Mcree directly. Their price is the lowest I was able to find and the shipping is was very reasonable. Call them for their price and any questions.

They have the option to order a chassis that is raw metal. That saved me a little bit if you are planning on painting over it anyway and the G5 AR chassis doesn't come with a rear stock or buffer tube, so you save there.

Re: my first chassis

i love just being able to buy what i need/want without having to buy a package with alot of stuff i dont need/already have that tend to make things higher in price. i have a prs ready to go i have mags and grips so just to get that chassis mag system and folder only shipped at that price is awesome. i have played with one of their stocks before and found the workman ship to be great. im really excited to have one myself.

Re: my first chassis

It's awesome to have these options I have a vltor imod clubfoot stock laying around I wonder how it would look on the chassis

Re: my first chassis

You will love your new chassis. I have $1015 in my remmy 700 chassis through a dealer. Got palma cut, rigid hand hold, adapter for palma rail, powder coat, weight plate, bag rider, stock pack, 5 rnd mag, studs for flush cups and tools. Think I got ripped off..oh well, its worth every penny.

Re: my first chassis

Not good with pics..will transfer some from my phone to the cpu later hopefully. Looks like every other Mcree tmag..except with the underside of the forearm cut out to accept a sling adapter for shooting in different positons. The adapter slides forward/back in the cut out to help with positioning the sling around your hand. The weight plate (3lb) (3'' wide) bolts to the forearm helping with muzzle jump off the rest. The bag rider bar attaches to the rigid handhold on the rear section. with the plate and rider installed my 308 is a dream off the bench and rides the bags awesome.

Re: my first chassis

The Mcree G5 AR stock with the raw metal finish I ordered for Remington 700 S/A showed up today. Here are a couple pictures if you are interseted to see what you will be getting.

Straight out of the box. It came with all the allens and instructions for seating and tourquing the action. They even send a 5/32 alle in a 1/4 dr. socket for the action and it is also long enough to get into a pistol grip. The 2 magazines where also ordered from Mcree. I function checked them, the bolt ran smooth and rounds cycled with no problems.

Here is the stock completely disassembled to get some primer, a coat of paint and loctite on all the hardware.

Here it is reassembled.

Re: my first chassis

hey thanks for the photos. i had i chance to fondal one and it really made me want to pull the trigger. they asked me what color i would like and there didnt seem to be an up charge so great. what did you hit yours with? cera? whats your thoughts on rhino lining one, they spay near my house. seems tough with good grip texture.

Re: my first chassis

I just cleaned, primed and kryloned to get a finish on it for the time being. I want to try to hit a range in the morning. Im still waiting on a stock to get in and want to get out to the ramge a few times to see how i like it before i commit real time or thought to paint.
Ive never seen rhino liner on a stock, that would give you a textured grip that should hold up. Just keep it off anything the action is going to contact. Might want to google that to see if anyone else tried it before. Post it up if you try it.

Re: my first chassis

I'm really liking that McRee's. One of those with a collapsible stock would be great for my wife & daughters.

There was a truck shop here a few years ago that sprayed some stocks with Rhino Liner. They were doing a stock free with a bedliner purchase. I handled 2 700 stocks they did. It felt great on the stocks and looked good.

Re: my first chassis

yeah i figured you tape the action screw holes and all of the action bed then just do the outside. i think that would be tough as nails. i got mine painted from mcrees to i wanna see how that finish looks. i post some pics.

Re: my first chassis

hey 2down what kind of brake you got on yours? doesnt quit look like a surefire?

Re: my first chassis

Sorry Shrompman busy last couple days. The break is a PWS I think its the PRC 5/8 - 24.

Re: my first chassis

That chassis does look nice.

I just got my XLR in and all I can say about it is WOW.

Re: my first chassis

ok guys i got my Mcrees! what a story i have to tell. so i called the nice people at Mcrees and placed an order for a g5 ar folder. i gave them my info and waited. they told me it would ship fri i think i ordered Monday. so after a day or two i noticed i had not been billed. i wanted to go ahead and be billed so i didn't think i had more money than i did. they were very nice and said they would bill at the end of the day. sure enough they did. then i noticed that i was billed twice. which cleaned out my checking account. i was upset, i called Mcrees and my bank and started too unravel this mess and believe me it was a mess! so Mcrees called as soon as they opened, i'm an hour ahead. they were very nice, helpful, patient. they explained that the card had run twice with the first a general error decline.(zip doesn't match address doesn't match that sort of thing) so they ran it again. well my bank took it upon themselves to charge both. Mcrees only ever saw one charge period and went above and beyond the call of duty to make this right, i really cant say enough about both the owners. i spoke with them both though this and they could not have been more helpful. so this was Friday the bank said it couldn't do anything but make an instant credit to me. it helped but it all so left my bank account over drawn all weekend. i could not even deposit the cash they gave me. i do a lot of banking online and this kind of screwed me. so had a little money in a separate checking account. woke up saterday to another charge, i called in a panic and ruined the owners weekend they told me they would rush back to try to make it right and they did. i feel bad because it was my bank all long screwing me. so they called everyday till it was made right. so it came today and i have no one else who cares. so here is what i got from what i think is one of the best company's around! so here are the photos! i will post contact info and what this cost me to build. to give everyone an idea of what you can get. THANKS S+K AT MCREES IN FACT EVERYONE AT MCREES! jg

Re: my first chassis

ok well i dont have a web page and i'm not too web computer savoy. so no pics sorry. well its got a green finish not sure what they use. the folder locks both ways very nicely. the action dropped right in with no issues. the construction is great. i mounted my magpul prs on the folder adapter. loaded up a ten round alpha mag and cycled though several mag loads to see about feeding mine runs great with all ten rounds in.
so i called Mcrees direct.
i paid 494 shipped for the g7 ar folder new
got r700 ltr off gb for 599 with 40 rebate from remmy shipped new
20 moa weaver base 20 new
swfa ss 16x42 fixed 250 shipped with rings used
2 alpha mags 60 each new
magpul prs 150 shipped used

looking forward to hitting the range this weekend!

Re: my first chassis

No sqeeks and I doubt there is any way it could flex. It is solid. The entire chasis is made out of aluminum. The pistol grip fits just like an AR. The folding assembly is made up of two pieces of metal that are cut to lock into each other in both positions and are held together with a steel pin / hinge. A spring keeps the two pieces locked together. Its simple and well built.

It is not an odd question , I am thinking the same thing. Why does it have to have all those joints?
Maybe the CNC machine they are using can not handle a long billet .
If it's got a joint it can flex more than if it had no joint at all. Maybe it's not a big issue to accuracy but it is a valid question.

Re: my first chassis

i have only had mine a few days with no rounds down the tube yet. but i can tell you mine seems very solid. they include all the allens for the action screws and all allen heads on the stock. i think that is thoughtful and attention to detail. my folder locks both ways very well and it seems with some blue lock-tight on them i cant imagine you having any wobble. it has a stander ed a2 grip which you can swap for just about any of them. i have an ergo going on it in a bit. all the parts of mine fit together very securely. and the modular aspect makes me happy. i can call them up and get different fronts and stocks from Mcrees. these are really some of the finest chassis i have seen. i have seen a few different ones, im no expert, but im very happy with mine so far. you also cant beat their service! call them up and pick their brain.

Re: my first chassis

Country, I’m just speculating that they make their stocks in several pieces to accommodate for different actions and set ups, i.e. folding non-folding. I believe they also make a couple different length forward grips and bench models. It’s probably more efficient for them to grab the pieces and bolt them up as orders come in than it is to waist warehouse space storing 100’s of full size stocks.
As far as the joints were the pieces bolt together, they have a tongue and slot cut and are held with 4 bolts. They don’t move.
If you close at the taped off areas in the middle picture above you can see what Im talking about.
Hope that helps
