Sidearms & Scatterguns Xdm 5.25 competition in .40 or glock 35 gen 4?

Re: Xdm 5.25 competition in .40 or glock 35 gen 4?

I would go with the xdm because I don't like the feel of Glocks. Tons of aftermarket out for the G. If you have never held both that would be the first thing to do to see which fits you best. Either way both great pistols and can't go wrong with either one.

I've got the XD-M, trigger is still typical xd crap, but put in the prp trigger kit and now there is not a thing I would change on it, shoots really well for me and ergonomics fit and point much better than the glock (for me)

Re: Xdm 5.25 competition in .40 or glock 35 gen 4?

Im just not a fan of the XDm's so i picked up a G35gen4 the other day.. Glock has made some great improvements to the Gen4 line... I have all Gen'3 and can tell they have worked out just about every flaw one can think of... besides the G35 is one steel plate killing machine.. now i wish they would hurry and make the Gen4 G34...

Re: Xdm 5.25 competition in .40 or glock 35 gen 4?

This is strictly a which strikes your fancy more - no one will be able to point out an objective advantage of one over the other...

Having owned XDs, and then switched to Glock, this would be a no-brainer for me. Some folks just love how a Glock runs.

I will point out that I thought I hated how Glocks felt - but nonetheless shot them faster and more accurately than my beloved XDs. I begrudgingly bought a Glock, and the rest is history.

Re: Xdm 5.25 competition in .40 or glock 35 gen 4?

I have an xdm 5.25 in 45. It's bone stock. I thought about changing the trigger, and I probably will, but it runs FAST with the stock trigger.

I have, a few times and with a few scenarios, put the xdm on the clock against my 1911 that I used to run IPSC with (the finest 1911 I have ever shot, many many dollars and gunsmith hours invested). On paper scenarios the xdm can come very close to hanging with the 1911. On steel, the xdm generally turns better times. The xdm cannot compare to the 1911 in doubletap splits.

I know that's just 2 guns and one shooter, but it tells me a bone stock xdm is at least acceptable. For reliability...the xdm has at least 2000 rounds through it, lead and hardball. I have yet to clean or oil it, it has not malfunctioned one time.

I write this only to help relieve your reservations on the function and reliability of the xdm. The Glock is a proven performer, you can't go wrong either way. I did have a Glock in 45 last year, it fit me like a glove...a catcher's mit. it was terrible, although it functioned perfectly. That's the only gun I have sent down the road in 24 years.

Umm ... are you missing an option? What about the M&P 40 Pro? I have all three XDM 5.25 models and a S&W M&P 9 Pro and 40 Pro, both are the 5" version.

My M&P Pros will outshoot any stock Springfield or Glock any day of the week.

I've owned several Glocks in 9, 40, and 45, and the only one I have kept is the Glock 20 in 10mm. All the rest I sold for M&Ps.

XDM, better looking, better trigger (with upgrades) Comes with better sights, more mag capacity.

great gun

Re: Xdm 5.25 competition in .40 or glock 35 gen 4?

I can't give you any advice in IDPA, but USPSA is another story. In USPSA you will likely be interested in shooting Production. If that's correct you only need a 9mm. You could certainly shoot a 40, but assuming factory loads there is a fair amount more recoil and cost involved in doing so.

If for some reason you want to shoot USPSA Limited then you'd want the 40 as that's the minimum caliber for limited.

The Glock is a more popular choice for USPSA Production, but both are fine guns.

Re: Xdm 5.25 competition in .40 or glock 35 gen 4?

Go Glock 35, gen 3 are tried and true, gen4 are new and now have positive reviews after a a few hick ups, after market support is easier and cheaper to find than any other pistol, the only other pistol used more in competition is a 1911, SA took the HS2000 which cost 189.99 and renamed it XD, gave it a 100 % price increase and great marketing campaign, the XD has a nice 1911 feel but in no way is it a superior pistol compared to a Glock, the M&P on the other hand should be the only other pistol to consider, after the full APEX treatment they are great pistols.

Re: Xdm 5.25 competition in .40 or glock 35 gen 4?

Yeah, I don't know where you're going to find an HS2000 for $189. I normally couldn't give a flying fart about plastic guns. I like the way M&Ps feel, I've yet to shoot one. Glocks are Glocks. My XDM is frankly my ugliest gun. It looks like a squirt gun that is supposed to look real. But, as much as I don't like the ugly beast, it is unstoppable.

I bought one the week before the annoucement that SA bought the rights to the pistol, price was 189.95 plus tax, I later sold the pistol for 300.

Re: Xdm 5.25 competition in .40 or glock 35 gen 4?

I run a XDm 5.25 for USPSA,IDPA and 3 gun. For the most part it it still stock, all I have done to it is change out the front sight and stippled the grips. Before I ran this gun I was running a XDm. The longer sight radius that the 5.25 has helps and is worth the extra duckage.

Re: Xdm 5.25 competition in .40 or glock 35 gen 4?

1. go to the store
2. pick out both pistols
3. close your eyes
4. point the pistol
5. which one is pointing at the target?
6. buy the pistol in #5.

For me that was the XD, had one since 2002 now have 3, no problems....

Re: Xdm 5.25 competition in .40 or glock 35 gen 4?

As a practical shooter, you have it narrowed down to the only real competitors, Glock and XDm. Personally I like the feel of the XDm more, it has enough room and it creates a really good grip, but you should definitely choose whatever one is more comfortable, because they are matched in performance( I have several XDm's and two Glocks, non of which have had ONE failure in over 10,000 rounds though each one)

Good Luck, whatever one you choose, you will be happy with it!
