Rifle Scopes Rosin on Sphur?

Re: Rosin on Sphur?

Curious what "Rosin" is myself. I own a Spuhr and and interested to know.

Re: Rosin on Sphur?

The instructions I got with mine said to use it so I put a bit on.

Re: Rosin on Sphur?

i use rosin on my barrel vise when removing barrels from actions, it keeps the vice from slipping and maring your finish. I assume it is the same principle.

I got mine from a baseball player, but you can get it at brownells I believe.

Re: Rosin on Sphur?

no need at all, the Sphur is a very well made mount, your scope won't slip in it and if it does rosin won't fix it cause you got bigger problems.
cheers.

Re: Rosin on Sphur?

If using a heavy recoiling gun I see nothing wrong by using rosin.
On a normal gun like a .308 there is no use for it.
I have never recived any complaints about scope moving in rings.

Rosin is availible from Midway, belive Brownells have stopped selling it.
Point with using rosin instead of loctite when there is severe recoil is that rosin have extremely high friction and is so easy to remove.
Just some alcohol on a piece of cloth and just vipe it off, life aint that easy if you are using loctite......

Re: Rosin on Sphur?

Rosin is tree sap that has been dried/hardened, and then ground into a powder. It can really help you get a grip on things

Re: Rosin on Sphur?

Yea, I thought the same thing on my $170 NF Rings "that dont need to be lapped" LMAO!! I was gettng about 75-80% factory contact on a NF Scope. Had them lapped and added Rosin.<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: coldboremiracle</div><div class="ubbcode-body">I wouldn't think it necessary on a quality optic mount. </div></div>
