I just bought a Remington Model 37 2nd model and was wanting to know if anyone has any experience with them and how good they are.

Re: Remington Model 37

Some say it is the best 22 target rifle ever built, don't know if I would go that far but the majority of a 37 is hand fitted. They are a well crafted 22, espcially when you look at how the receiver of most 22's are nowdays. What do you need to know? Haven' shot mine alot so don't make the questions too hard!

Re: Remington Model 37

COPIED AND PASTED FROM ANOTHER QUESTION ABOUT A 37 i gave to a guy on the value of his 37, some good links and stuff (in the end it appears it's the "parent" of the 40X:

i did a quick search, just by looking at photos of like rifles on auction sites (gunsamerica, etc.) it looks as if the price range is correct.

condition is the #1 factor, looks as if yours is original stock, sites, etc., and hasn't been "restored" - to true collectors, this is a plus.

on the flip side looks as if yours has some rusty spots on it (which gives it character, and depending on the buyer, sort of confirms that it original and not messed with.)

i found this, i don't have a login nor wish to, but you can if you want. looks like they have average prices depending on condition, just by photos i'd say yours is in the higher end of "good" condition, bordering on "very good" or lower end of "very good" http://www.pooshka.com/gun-value.php?poo_model_id=10635
i can't see from your pictures, but if it has the "barrel band" at the end (beginning, depending on how you look at things) of the forestock, it's worth more as it's rarer.

i would also check some gun value books (guns digest, blue book of firearms values, shooter's bible, etc.)

there's some good information here too: http://rimfireshooting.com/index.php?showtopic=7604

from what i can tell remington made this rifle to run with the winchester 52, and was the predecessor to the legendary 40X. this was (the 40X & the 37) the top of the line rifle of it's day, and probably can still run with today's anschutz rifles - it's reported to be that good, and only 12,200 produced from the 1930's to the 1950's when the remington 40x's, 513's, and other 500 series rimfires dominated everything from the olympics, to camp perry, to nra compitition.

i wouldn't sell it at all, however it would have to take a stab that a starting bid of $750 would not be unresonable if i were to sell it. or a $900.00 OBO kind of deal, you'll probably pull in 825-850 ish, possibly even up to $1,000 at an auction that has true rimfire junkies at it, or firearms collectors that have an actual clue to what this rifle is. benchrest shooter's and prone silhouette shooters love this rifle, so you may even get the better end of a bidding war.

looks like your stock is in great / excellent shape, don't know if it was redone, hopefully it wasn't.

Re: Remington Model 37

Thanks i appriciate the info. The gun is from the original owner, and he said he only fired about 100 rounds through it. The gun looks like new and the bolt doesnt look like it has any scratches on it either.

Re: Remington Model 37

you lucky so and so, a 37 from an original owner & less than 100 rounds?

Re: Remington Model 37

Congratulations on a fine acquisition. You willnever regret buying it. It is one of the finest examples of American Craftsmanship. I have a 37 I got earlier this year and couldn't be more pleased with it. It is a pleasure to shoot. It will holt its own in many local BR, prone and position matches. Don't be tempted to drill and tap it for a scope--You will ruin its value--especially since it appears to be all original and a late 1930 or 40's build.

Have fun with it and take care of it.

Happy Shooting

Re: Remington Model 37

It came with the original redfield olympic sights and a lyman 15x super target spot and both magazines one five shot and one single shot and the sight inserts. I hope it will shoot good

Re: Remington Model 37

That is a find!! Go to a Small bore shoot and you will see a few of the 37's. And none will part with them!!! Have fun with that 37!!

Re: Remington Model 37

the 37 you have was Big Greens' answer to Winchesters mod 52C, They are works of art and shoot as good as they look. Fantastic period rig you have...I love them and Im a die hard Winchester collector,shooter... enjoy

Re: Remington Model 37

There is 2 or 3 on GB right now. Hasn't been a week went by in 6 months that at least 1 wasn't listed and 4 at one time about 2 months ago. Prices anywhere from a basic with few accessories for $750 to $2100+ for a complete package. Not hard to find one for sale if you are seriously looking for one, less of course you want a mint condition one for $500 or less than I guess it would be easy to say you can't find one.

Re: Remington Model 37

The one on gunbroker for $2100 is the one i got. I thought that was to much but the way i justified it was $800 for lyman super targetspot, $300 for sights, and $1000.00 for the rifle. I think the rifle was worth that because i have never, never seen one in that condition. Looked like new.I had a friend tell me once if you are going to buy a gun and want it to hold its value make shure you buy a good one, because if you buy a junk gun that is all it will ever be worth. what do you think?

Re: Remington Model 37

The Remington 37 is the best target rifle Remington made. I own several and wouldn't sell any of them. I like them much more than my 40-X's. The early rifles had short stocks and marginal triggers, the later rifles had much better triggers and stocks.

Check yours to see if all of the numbers match. The bolt, stock and buttplate should all have the serial number on them as the receiver. The stock has the serial number in the barrel channel, the buttplate has it on the underside. To remove the bolt pull and hold the trigger, pull the bolt as far back as it will go, then while still holding the trigger back use a paper clip to push down on the sear through the little hole right in front of the bolt face to get the sear to go down far enough for the bolt to come out. Don't push down too hard on the sear.

Re: Remington Model 37

I had one several years ago and could kick myself for selling it divorce. hefty, solid, butter smooth action, matching numbers, and a trigger like no other. Was shooting BR 50 with it. Took a while to get use to the trigger and find the right ammo it liked but when i did it would shoot dead nuts on. After practice and range was clear i use to rub gum, candy anything that would draw flies to it. then i would shoot the flies. Best 22 Remington ever made. I think you could find a 14 year old virgin in the projects faster then you could find a model 37. MM
