I purchased a elite 3200 10x40 for my 17hmr. I have not got the chance to shoot it yet. I am looking to get a scope for my new fvsr 22lr. Not sure what to choose. I found a local deal on a swfa 16x thats hard to pass up, but what do you guys think about fixed power on rimfires and going to 16x. I am worried thats to much scope for a 22lr for being fixed. I plan to just punch paper and mess around and shoot birds and small varmients. I am not the most experience shooter when it comes to optics so please excuse my noobie questions. What do you guys think?

Re: Swfa 16x and 10x on rimfires?

You're losing field of view with going to 16x so hunting will be a pita with it but punching paper will be great. you will be able to see your shots without a spotting scope. the 10x however, I feel like you're going to regret not having a paralax adjustment esp. On a rimfire. you can get a good variable zoom with a paralax adjustment for 150-250 Mueller makes great scopes for the money check out the apt and apv models.

Re: Swfa 16x and 10x on rimfires?

i have the swfa ss10x42 sf on my cz 455 and have been very happy with it. it focuses down to 10 yards and 10 power has been plenty for shooting .22lr out to 300yds (furthest i've shot it).

i set my 4-16 viper pst at 10 to get a look at targets at various ditances before going with the ss10x42.

I have the 16x MQ on my 452. and i REALLY like it. there are times when im looking for moving targets that its a pain and wished it was a lower x. other than that its sweet. i can see bullet holes at 200 yards.

My 452 American has the 10X on it and has had a lot of use the last 3 1/2 years from 25-350 yards. It is a better all around than the 16 but usually requires a spotting scope at 200 yards.

If light conditions don't matter and for shooting targets only, I think I would prefer the 16x.

Re: Swfa 16x and 10x on rimfires?

I have a SS 16x on my KIDD 10/22. It works great for a bench gun. I have no problems seeing holes at 100yds.

If you are just target shooting I would go with the 16x. Other wise 10x or a Muller Apt 4.5-14x would be good too.
