Re: ~HS PRECISION~BM & Detachable Mag? ~GENERATATION2~
I like the function of the 2nd generation and the looks of the first generation. The second generation, the bottom metal is a little lighter and less bulky. It has a bigger magazine release that is still in the same spot as the first. You won't accidently bump it, but when you want to use it,it will be more positive. The magazine on the second generation attached to two points not just one. The main difference in attachment is the second generation has a lip on the front of the mag that positively locks the mag in place until you release it. It doesn't rattle. I upgraded my HSP HTR to the newer system. I can still put my first generation mags in the 2nd generation bdm, but when loaded the front slides down as there is no lip for the front to lock onto. I am pretty sure I could make it work if I really wanted to. The main thing I don't like about the second generation is that all their mags have a protective hard plastic shell. It puts pressure on the bottom of the stock to reduce rattle and provide a little cover for someone that messed up their inlet. It hangs down, about 3/4" with the 4 mag. One of the things I liked most about the HSP first generation system, was the lower capacity mags looked almost like a stock bottom metal fitting almost flush, but this didn't allow for positive control, if the mag didnt' drop out when released. The larger mags didn't have this problem, but where said to rattle. I bought two second generation bdms one for my HSP HTR because it offered a high cap mag for my 300 WM,(7 rounds) as opposed to 3 rounds) with the old system. I still have it. The second I bought for my 308, I liked the idea of having the ability to have quick reloads and the possiblity for a higher 10 round magazine. I didn't like how it looked though, and since I don't really need the high cap mag, I opted for just keeping the PTG BDL bottom metal it has. I returned the second to HSP and they gave me a full refund, no problems at all. I still toy with putting a first gen system on my 308. I never had any issues with it, but I will admit the second generation is better, but in my subjective opinion less visually appealing. I know that is subjective it may be your cup of tea.
