I might be wrong but I think I read somewhere that Lapua was making 50BMG brass. Does anybody know for sure? Their website doesn`t show it but they don`t show all the brass they make. If they do, I think I might just have to have a 50!

If I`m thinking correctly, they were testing the 50 BMG in a Mcmillan Tac 50 action, Big Mac stock and the picture was a loaded round with Lapua 50 headstamp. The pic was taken in their lab.

rws brass being imported is about as close as you will find right now , 25 pieces is over $100 , the rws primers are supposed to be pretty good too.

here is the site that has the rws bmg brass

Re: Lapua 50BMG brass?

I just can`t figure out why some American company can`t make brass as good as Lapua does. I try to shoot Lapua brass in every rifle I own as the quality is so good vs other brands. As popular as the big 50 is, you would think somebody would make high quality match brass, Lapua, Norma, etc. Maybe the RWS will be better than what we have now. I have heard the Win brass is good but if it`s the same quality as the smaller cartridges, then I don`t want that. It`s probably better than the military stuff though.

They've got some proprietary processes and equipment that set them apart from everyone else. Making brass cases isn't rocket science, but making good quality ones isn't trivial one bit. .408 shooters saw how important this was from 2004-2010 when getting good quality brass was really difficult. Early Jamison brass was problematic as was Bertram. I remember when the German Hoernbauer(?) was the best and hardest to get. I was so frustrated with the situation that I was scouring the web to find what was left of TTI Armory .408 ammo just to get the friggin' brass.. It wasn't until about 2008 that Jamison's .408 brass was up to snuff.

Yeah, .50BMG Lapua brass would be awesome (and $5/case probably) but worth it.

considering how much time I spend just in brass prep on my .50 cases $5 a case would be cheap.

Re: Lapua 50BMG brass?

The RWS brass is indeed excellent brass. Very consistent in weight, a little heavier than most others and stands up to pressure better. It is so good, that most of the FCSA guys using don't even bother to prep it at all. It is that good!

Dale Arenson (TenX Bullets) won the FCSA National Championship this year using it, with no case prep at all.

Pricey, but I got some, and I am impressed so far!
