EXCELLENT "RUGGEDIZED" COMPACT CAMERA

I just purchased the new Olympus TG 1-iHS compact camera.
By all reviews this is the best "ruggedized" compact camera currently on the market.

As a backpacker and hunter I have long been looking for a camera that could withstand outdoors use, i.e. be nearly "klutz proof" - known as "soldier proof" in other situations. Finally, my first new, non hand-me-down digital camera!

The ruggedized aspests are:
1. can withstand a 6 ft. drop to concrete
2. can be submerged to 40 ft. (about 6 meters)
3. can oprerate to -14 F.

GOOGLE the camera to read about its many good features.

Two in particular are its ability to shoot good photos in low light and the option to double its built-in 4X telephoto capability with an add-on telephoto lens, put on a filter or use a fish-eye lens, all now available. This camera also has a built-in GPS for "geo-tagging" photos.

As I said, GOOGLE it to read on and be amazed.

Uh - does your Canon TG 1-iHS happen to say "Olympus" on the front of it, on the box, and all over the manual?

PS: I know where the ***k my photo was taken, I dont need a "geo fag" on it.

Re: EXCELLENT "RUGGEDIZED" COMPACT CAMERA

Uh... Yeah, It DOES say "Olympus" on my camera. Sorry, senior moment there. HEY! It even says Olympus on the box. Whaddya know? (For the benefit of new readers, I changed my original post to now read Olympus instead of "Canon", which is what I originally posted.) "Never mind!" as Roseanna, Roseanna Danna would say.

Anyway, I've noticed it's not the lightest compact camera, nor the smallest by any means but it has capabilities that I, as a lightweight backpacker, want in a camera. So it becomes a "weight indulgence" that will cause me to cut my pack weight somewhere else. i.e. no small monocular goes with me anymore.

Because I sea kayak also I got a floating camera strap. Might help.

Well, regarding the geo tag feature, I didn't design the friggin' camera so I take it with what comes with it. But the camera DOES also act as a GPS if necesary, with a map display. Not a good topo map like my Garmin Colorado but enough to get one "un-lost".
In my backpacking in the Sierras and the Rockies I've found a GPS useful to save time, such as when trail signs are missing and there are THREE forks in the trail and other such routefinding puzzles.

It's nice that " G. Nightmare" is so macho that he doesn't need a "geo-fag" on his camera.. Wish I could be so manly and masculine. Gee - if only...

Its cool that you can use it as a GPS. I just rather not have the info on my photos. Sorry if offended at all was jus messing around.

Guess its the annoyance with all the tracking an tagging that seems to be coming with all the technology. It has its purpose
but don't exactly want it. Kinda like the black boxes in cars too.
