Am I the only one who has noticed that over half of the listingS on the optics sections are from snipers hide vendors? I have to say, it is getting a little crowded in there. I know SWFA sells used scopes, and I know their SampleList website and if I was looking to purchase a scope on the retail market I would be there. when I come to the snipershide classifieds, thats what um looking for, member to member classifieds. I know there is a commercial section for the vendors, so why are they swamping our for sale section?

Re: vendors items flooding for sale pages...

Drama much,

I have 35 listings per page and counted 4 orange posts,

When you take over the bills you can dictate how your forum works, otherwise leave it to us to run the site.

Re: vendors items flooding for sale pages...

Lol. Obviously posts move on the board, at this moment the first page of the firearms page has 23 vendor listings. I was simply making a observation, vendors have there own commercial for sale section so why are the their for sale items outside of that? I'm not drama, and potsted this question here because this is where I thought questions about the site are supposed to go. I personally am turned off by the flood of commercial listings and I have bought/sold tens of thousands of dollars of equipment on this site. If it is a issue of "suck it up, we need the revenue and don't care what paying sponsors do" then I guess my concerns don't matter. I know I don't come onto the Snipershide for sale section to see what *enter company name here* has on the retail market. If I was looking for retail, I would be in the commercial section....

Re: vendors items flooding for sale pages...

I don't disagree that sometimes it looks bad, but then I actually look at what they are selling and how.

RWSGunsmithing, I don't like his ads, so I don't open his posts. The for sale thread that's a link to his website for some reason bugs the shit out of me, I'm instant gratification and an impulse buyer. I just read right past them.

SWFA ads are fine to me. It's not like they are listing all their new products that I can find on their site. They only list the sample sale and discounted stuff, those are typically good deals. Why would I care if a used S&B that's a good deal was posted by SWFA or any other member? I'd actually prefer SWFA as they are reputable, able to take CC and usually have good pictures showing condition. So in the case of a used item in the for sale section I'd say I want SWFA to advertise even more!

As LL said, the sponsors pay the bills, they typically do a fair job or providing a service and aren't a hindrance. I think that you need to look past the orange color and just see them as any other seller with good stuff that you need

WOW?? I guess I didn't know it was causing any problems. How would you like to see me do it? I like using the website for the purchases this way it elimates any "mine" or "I posted first" arguments.

I will say this that I can tell when my posts here on the hide get buried as my web traffic goes down significantly.

Your right SWFA doens't have alot of post's in the for sale section but if you notice they also have banners running here on the hide so they don't need to. I can't afford to have a banner here on the hide at them moment so I have to bump my adds to get the traffic I need to sell.

Re: vendors items flooding for sale pages...

RWS, lol, you're not causing problems, sorry you took it that way. I was simply stating that people can choose the ads they want to look at and those they don't. It's as simple as clicking or not. Like I said, I'm impulsive, I look at literally almost every single ad that pops up. The extra steps of clicking on a link, then it opening a new page, etc just slows me down so I avoid it. Others probably like it, I wouldn't change it if I was you.

I rarely "shop" the classifieds for something I actually need. That stuff gets ordered from Midway, Triad, Brownells, etc. Most my classifieds purchases are a simple "Damn that's cool and a great deal, I want it....I'll take it!" So really in short I don't care who posts it if the deal is good. Now if SWFA posted every new item they stock in the for sale section, that would SUCK!

Lastly, some dealers do post new items and MSRP, but typically those are the real hard to find items in high demand. Every 3-20 S&B that came into the US was probably sold in 3 days, a lot of those thanks to the Hide Vendors. Instead of 50 posts in the optics section asking "Where can I find a 3-20 in stock?" the members just had to check the classifieds and see who had what they wanted.

Re: vendors items flooding for sale pages...

RWS, I have to agree with jasonk. I would prefer if the top of your post contained a product description and a picture and then a link. Sometimes, I will click through to your links but most of the time I skip them. Perhaps I am lazy but it is human nature and from a sales perspective you might want to provide more details about the product you are selling.

If you configure your website properly, you can use images hosted on your website and link to them in your posts here, then track the views on your images to see how much traffic you are getting. You could even add special tracking info to see when someone from SH is viewing your pictures.

As someone that is on here too much, I do tend to avoid posts from user's when they are all grouped together. It tells me that the posts are either bumps or a vendor.

Just suggestions, take it any way you want.

Re: vendors items flooding for sale pages...

Thank you for the suggestions.

I'm currently figuring out how to use the images off my website so I can post them directly here to the hide instead of going thorugh a 3rd party website for images. This should help with listing times for my listings. I will still have a link to the website for the actual purchase though.

Re: vendors items flooding for sale pages...

If you notice, several of the commercial vendors on here are taking trade ins, so they list the used scopes in the regular optics for sale section. They are doing you the favor instead of telling you when you want that new 3-20x, "go sell it and come back when you have the money" . No they take your used stuff and sell it for you.

These guys go above and beyond for the membership here and hardly spam the place.

Try looking cause not all the ads are retail items but trade ins, samples, and demos, which are sold at a discount.

I totally agree and have spent thousands with SH vendors. However, I'm just being honest about the assessment of strings of bumps. Occasionally there is a gem in there but you could spend a lot of time looking for that gem and not everyone has the time to click through - especially if they are on a smart phone or some mobile device with slow internet.

Re: vendors items flooding for sale pages...

I have still yet to see more than 5 orange names on a single page.

Maybe if you catch them at the moment they add stuff, but when I have looked, 5 out of 35 that includes yesterday and today.

When you decide you're gonna pay a percentage of what you sell or buy, then I will contain them to one pace.

There is a reason you're not on eBay, gunsamerica, gunbroker, etc, and their fees are part of it. You want classifieds, moderation and and support when things go wrong, all for nothing.

Re: vendors items flooding for sale pages...

I have had excellent service from the vendors here on the Hide, have gotten some good deals too, and since they support the site, I don't really care if most of a page contains vendor ads. I can choose to scroll past or look at their ads. My $0.02

Re: vendors items flooding for sale pages...

they are not really flooding the pages, they are just more obvious when they post a few things now and then. They are also easier to ignore/recognise because of the color of their name.
nothing wrong with that at all.

I just sent you an email with a quick tutorial that will help and some SEO advice...

Re: vendors items flooding for sale pages...

IMO not only do the hide vendors support the hide, but many support our sport in a massive way to the tune of tens of thousands of dollars. Go look at any of the major prize tables and compare the vendors, see how many are hide sponsors.

Secondly in the past few years I have observed that this listing service which I might add is completely free for us to buy and sell from seems to generate often quite a bit of animosity and drama and work for the site owners and mods not all obviously but quite a bit.

Thirdly based on the screenshot you posted it would appear based on views and replies that at 20:00ish he was simply replying to inquiries and within a few hours I would assume they would be spaced back out.

Many things in optics are nearly impossible to find anywhere and even used fetch the same or similar to brand new. VJJ's scratched NF not withstanding

But you know, whatever.

All those replies were to himself. He was just "bumping" all his ads to the top to keep them at the top.

Ya know, the "btt" thing everyone does.

Re: vendors items flooding for sale pages...

I sent him a message and told him to use the Commercial sales section if he was gonna bump that many in a row.

personally I don;t' see the issue, the FS is so busy and moves so fast it is usually gone in less than an hour.

I stand corrected. Based on the lack of information and what you mentioned about it being a hassle on a mobile I had not figured you checked every post.

You have my apologies.

Re: vendors items flooding for sale pages...

I'm almost ready to snag one of hisnthreaded Sig TacOps.....just waiting fr a drop...or for someone else topop up and under sell him.

The orange links hypnotize me.

Re: vendors items flooding for sale pages...

I personally don't mind there postings.I like to throw my jingle there way as well. They are a huge supporter of the site. And like stated above, go to the matches and see who really steps it up on the prize table. The donate thousands of dollars a year to the matches.

Thank you vendors....
