I just got the Redding Big Boss II and when I use the "smart primer" to prime my cases it is leaving a crease in my primers. The primer seats fine but leaves a crease all the way across the middle of the primer. Its not very deep but I don't want to set off a primer when priming and didn't know if anyone else has experienced this.

Re: Redding "smart primer" creases primer

Make sure you are using the correct primer attachment. The small attachment will leave creases in a large primer. You probably won't set off a primer while seating, it's pretty hard to do. I've accidentally ripped the shell off a primer while trying to seat in a crimped case and it didn't go off.

You may also want to look into buying a hand primer. They easier to feel when the primer has been seated properly. They are a lot faster as well, since the tray can hold ~300 primers at a time.

I made sure I'm using the correct attachment because the large primer will not even fit in the smaller primer attachment. I'm definitely planning on getting a hand primer I have just spent so much money already I'm trying to keep it as economical as possible.

Pics? Make sure your priming arm is clean. Sometimes brass shavings and what not can find their way onto it, and then mark the primers.

Also check the face of the priming punch. May have a manufacturing bur. Easy to polish out if that is the case.

Re: Redding "smart primer" creases primer

I have checked/cleaned the arm to make sure there is nothing external that could be causing the problem. I will try and post pics up tomorrow. I emailed redding but I have never dealt with them so I don't know what to expect as far as customer service goes.

SDP,

Redding CS is pretty good. They'll take care of it if the problem is on their end. $20 for a Lee priming tool isn't too bad cost wise, and you'll get a much better feel for how well you've seated the primer.

Just call redding. The guys I have spoke to in the past have been very helpful and knowledgeable.

I was having problems with my sizer once and the gentleman from redding sent me 2 new stems, 2 new expanders, and about 5 decapping rods.
