I have DPMS .308L that I want to take the comp off for when hunting, and put a thread protector, or flash hider on it for when in the woods. This past deer hunt, it was just too loud compared to my other rifles without one. I call DPMS twice. First guy says it can be removed, the second says he doesn't recommend it. After some research, I found where two guys took it to smiths, who cut it off, then found threads underneat it, with what looked like Loctite underneat it. My question is, it has no nut, so how the hell can they get it on straight without having a nut, and second, how can a guy get it off? Stick it in a barrel vise, and use a heat gun and try to take it off? Info and suggestion are certainly welcome! Here's a pic of what it looks like.

Not trying to b an ass but, why don't u just wear ear protection? An 18" 308 will still be loud as fuck.

I'm coming to you from the perspective of a guy with ringing in both ears...

Re: DPMS/Miculek Comp

The only time I don't wear hearing protection is when hunting. Electronic muffs are too noisy with wind. In the ear ones bother my ears after more than 10 minutes. I'm open to other hearing protection methods though.

Heat to break down the locktite sounds like a plan to avoid farking up the barrel and threads.

I put one of the Troy Claymores on mine. Still too loud!

Now it has an AAC 7.62 SDN on it....just right!! </div></div>

Thanks!
That'll cure my problem now.

Re: DPMS/Miculek Comp

I hate foam plugs too.

The best thing is custom molded earplugs. I got mine at a gunshow in socal from a company called "ear defenders". Was about $55 and last about 5+ years. Money well spent. I wore them 8 hrs a day for about 2 yrs.

Not the most convenient thing for hunting though...
