I run a 5-20X SS HD on my .260 wich is my comp rifle and was also my hunting rifle. I'm going to build a dedicated hunting rifle in 7 Rem Mag when my barrel and stock show up in the next few weeks. I'm going to bounce the scope between the two rifles for a year or so and was leaning toward the LaRue mount. I just want to make sure I'm buying the right product.

I would recommend badger or nightforce rings and a torque wrench for repeatability and dependability.

I keep a torque wrench in my pack, so that's not a problem. Once the scope is mounted on the 7 Rem Mag in late October, it'll live there until late January...unless there's a comp I go shoot during the fall and winter.
Best thing is, once I move the scope to one of the rifles I can check zero in my back yard.

For bolt-actions, I agree with Wade.
I have 2 or 3 Larue QD mounts that I run on my AR's, and for them it's great. One of them I've taken on and off probably 100 times or more and it still returns to zero every time (the other maybe 5-10 times, same return to zero ability). They also have a repeatable zero when switching between two AR's.
However, the Larue mounts are meant for AR's. Bolt actions sit the barrel/receiver up higher relative to the butt of the stock. So while a Larue would give you good results in the return-to-zero department, it would put your scope way higher over the bore than it needs to be, and you'd be craning your neck to look through the scope (like I do on my m91/30 PU).
With a quality set of rings, set up correctly, they should return to zero, or be very near to it. You may also look into Larue's QD rings. I can't comment on their return-to-zero ability, but I would expect them to perform. Larue makes good products in my experience.

I'm going to measure my current ring heigh from top of picatinny to bottom of ring to compare it to LaRue's measurement. I'm trying to keep my business in Texas if possible.

I have a bunch of LaRue mounts on my AR type guns, and they have always been great as far as return to zero goes.
On a bolt gun they may not be my first choice. If you had a stock of chassis that allowed you to get your head up perhaps, but if it was on a more traditional style hunting rifle it would probably not be the best fit.
I am as big of a LaRue fan as they come, and I am having a new bolt gun built right now, and it will be getting Seekins or Badger rings on it.

That tells me a bunch. I'm running a McMillan A-5 on the .260 and (when its finished) a Manners T-4 on the 7 Rem Mag. I don't buy adjustable cheek when I have the stock built since I run Eagle stock packs on every rifle and can adjust cheek weld height with soft cushion under the pack. I found a one piece Badger set that looks pretty nice. Its also cheaper than the LaRue. But if LaRue was the way to go I wouldn't mind paying the extra.
So far the majority have told me to lean toward Badger, and I appreciate it!

I used to use the LaRue QD mounts then switched about 6 years ago to the ARMS #22 rings. The repeatability is great and the QD is just as rock solid as the LaRue solution.
Either way when going from one rifle to another you may end up with improper heights and eye reliefs. I went with PT rail mounts on my bolt actions so back and forth from ar to bolt was seemless

The Badger one piece ring is looking very good to me. Just can't find the info of the measurement from the top of the picatinny to the bottom of the ring, so I can compare it to my current ring measurement.
I'm currently running Burris Signature Zee rings "high" (.300" top of picatinny to bottom of ring) and a SS 5-20 x 50 with about 3/16" clearance at the bell with a Butler Creek. Badger's website doesn't have that measurement.
Any help?

I'm running LaRue QD rings on an M21 SuperMatch. I like the rings, but like LedZep said, I think it sits the scope higher than it needs to be (which the M1A doesn't need any help in.) My bolt gun is running Seekins rings, and I have no issues with those. In fact, probably going to order another set one of these days to dedicate to that rifle.
