So my first .22 was a CZ452 threaded and it's one sharp shooter. But now I wanted semi and was hoping to find something just as accurate and after all the opinions thrown at me, I decided to go with a 10/22 custom Kidd. Lots of great reviews and looks badass! Any owners want to share their experience?

LW barrel, TH stock, threaded barrel were some of my key features. Breakdown below.

Re: Kidd .22 custom build

I have a couple good shooting 10/22's with some of the components you listed.

I have two (soon to be three) of the exact triggers you are looking at. Although I would like a little more "feel", I have found NO better trigger for a 10/22. Also, the kit they now sell works better than any trigger job I've ever done.

I have one Kidd barrel in a rifle that shoots well. I've owned and sold two others. Tony makes a real good barrel, but there are some others that are better in my opinion, just not at that price point.

They make a very good bolt. I've bolts from several different folks, and so far I like Kidd the best.

Stocks are a matter of fit/preference if you ask me. I've tried a lot of stocks. Right now, I've got two identical old heavy Fajen stocks, one will shoot with any reciever I've had in it, the other was going to be sold, (or thrown in the burn pile), until I bedded it, and put a barrel jack screw out in the forend. Don't know why it took all that, but now it shoots.

The great thing about Kidd is they stand behind their products 100%. Great folks to deal with, and they answer the phone in person.

Just be aware, a 10/22 is like an AR platform...you can spend a lot and make them shoot well, then you can spend a LOT more and...well...not improve much more. I've got one that the only "Ruger" part left is the magazine, and sadly, it is still just a 10/22.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for sharing!

I've only been shooting for about a year so I've still got ways to go. As for customer service, Shalee was great! Nothing more hotter then a chick that knows her guns

You mention that there might be a better barrel, how so? I know LW is probably one of the best at least that's what I've been reading.

Re: Kidd .22 custom build

We'll you can kill the thread as I just canceled my order due to a 11% sales tax which came up to $174.50 and I don't even live in Texas.

Thank the .gov idiots.

Re: Kidd .22 custom build

It's real fucken tempting though. Kidd won't budge and I haven't found a pre-owned one either. I might just resubmit the order.

If I'm paying the tax then I guess everyone else purchasing one will as well, so fuck it.

Re: Kidd .22 custom build

I have a Kidd supergrade and re-worked another 10/22 with all Kidd parts - wonderful guns. My Anschutz shoots better, but the versatility of the Kidd in terms of ammo choices and being "almost" as good as the Annie keeps them high on my praise list. Your choice of components will make you a very happy camper - I say, go for it!

This my last build, 10/22.
Kidd Trigger
Kidd 18 LW Threaded barrel
Kidd Bolt.
Gemtech OBII suppressor.

5 shots, 50yards w match / subsonics open up a bit. I'm still working on it, pretty sure thats me pullin to the right..

EDIT:

I can't find the pics of the 100yd. I have a couple of Nikon Buckmasters, 4-14 mil dot's on them. I think that day all I had was CCI 40gr. I have some ELEY Match, Wolf Match and Federal Match to try also..

Re: Kidd .22 custom build

Here is a couple of pics to get you back on track.

This was the only 100yd group I could find. These are average with Wolf Match ammo (weighed).

Re: Kidd .22 custom build

evilcoon, I have a 10/22 that I put together using all Kidd parts (except the receiver). I put a lot of work into that rifle and even developed sort of a unique way of bedding the receiver, allowing me to completely freefloat the barrel, with zero movement in the receiver even when pushing down on the barrel.

The rifle shot so well that I actually used it to compete in a local rimfire match against the likes of Remington 40Xs and Anschutz 54s; and I was competitive with it. A couple of guys were really impressed with it and asked me about it, so I told them that I used all Kidd parts. So...they went and ordered complete rifles from Kidd. They both wound up getting rid of the rifles because neither of them shot as well as mine.

I really don't understand it. I don't think it had anything to do with the parts, because the other rifles that I built, using mine as a model, shot just as well as mine, or better, due to some improvements in the way I do it. I really don't know what was up because I just don't understand how a complete rifle from Kidd wouldn't shoot better than mine. They were both supergrades, but they didn't opt for the rear tang, which I thought may have made a difference.

In my opinion, based on the quality of the parts, I think Kidd is tops. I'm really not trying to sway you one way or the other, just sharing an experience.

Re: Kidd .22 custom build

I have one of the early complete Kidd supergrade - about 15,000 rds fired, it has always been used for position shooting so no benchrest groups - the truly unique attribute I have found is that I can loan it to anyone using any ammo with perfect function and all the potential accuracy of that ammo - most other good 22's are ammo picky for either function or accuracy

Re: Kidd .22 custom build

George, it's funny that you should mention that. You're right. Heck, my 10/22 will feed Eley Black Box, which the rifle really should choke on, due to the odd shape of the bullet.

Re: Kidd .22 custom build

Thanks for sharing guys. Seems Kidd is the way to go but I'm still having trouble putting this deal together.

I'll update my status Monday.

Re: Kidd .22 custom build

I had Kidd do a full build for me last year. I will post pics if you would like to see it or the groups I shot (I think I still have the target). The rifle will flat out shoot! I think I've tested every 22 ammo known to man. I mounted one of my big scopes on it for testing the ammo at 100yds. I had a few Lapua MidasX groups a hair over .25" with a 10 shot group and the Wolf ME was not far behind that at 100. However my threads on the barrel suck. I can't get anything to thread all the way down it but the thread protector that came with it. I have three different suppressors that should work but none do. I still use a can but it only goes half way down. I told Tony Kidd about it and he said "I don't know what to tell ya". I've been planning on running a die down it but haven't yet. Other then that i love the rifle. I got the single stage trigger and it's real nice.

Re: Kidd .22 custom build

Keelo, did you get the rifle with the rear tang? If not, how did they bed the stock to prevent movement of the action? Is your barrel bedded to any extent?

Re: Kidd .22 custom build

No I don't think I have the rear tang. I don't even remember it being an option then. I also don't remember having a moa base option when I ordered mine. I wish I could have gotten the moa base because I had to buy a scope with a lot of travel in order to get to 200 yds. But I'm really not sure how it was bedded.

Re: Kidd .22 custom build

Just one comment on the long magazine release lever. These are great if you only plan to shoot from a bench. I spend a lot of time on RFC and some users have complained that the longer release levers can get bumped when carryinng the rifle in the field. They have had their magazines fall out.

Personally I have the shorter ones - not stock - slightly extended.

Re: Kidd .22 custom build

My bad, I do have the rear tang. I don't remember it being an option then but maybe it was.

Re: Kidd .22 custom build

Mine has the rear tag which Tony will also bed your rifle for a fair price not that much $70, I don,t remember, My supergrade was $1050.00 and i furnished the Fajen Legacy Stock it came with the real tag inletted, bedded, and firelapped for that price

I had the same problem with the threads on mine. Tony could not explain why it did not fit. Sent it to SWR and now it fits. Don't recall what was done.

This is a partial Kidd build with a Kidd barrel, bolt. I used a PC adj sear kit for the trigger. Shoots exceptionally well.

Re: Kidd .22 custom build

I had a Supegrade built in Feb 2012. It comes with a inletted rear tang and bedded for $74.00, Actually i asked Tony Kidd which barrel was the most accurate,he said the 20" Bull barrel. I asked threading for a supressor and he said it could possibly affect accuracy to i dropped the threads, I can shoot a group that a dime fully covers at 50 yards using a Caldwell fire control rest, and thats with CCI Standard Veocity LRN. It shoots as good as most of the ammo i,ve tried, Very consistent for factory ammo.$27.00 a brick from targetsportsusa,if you buy it by the case free shipping> Im shooting with 66 year old eyes, I think the Kidd will shoot 50 and 100 yard groups extremely accurate with a young shooter with good eyes and low heartrate,The Kidd Supergrade is a much better rifle than i am a shooter. I love mine, but my Remington 40 X i just purchased is close, I enjoy them both, Haven,t shot but 300 rounds through the 40 X

Re: Kidd .22 custom build

Fine build, You will love your Kidd,I beleive it,s the best buy for the money. Tolerances are super tight and the workmanship is first clasee.
