Rifle Scopes US Optics Options Advice?

Hey Shooters, I'm getting ready to get some glass for my new GAP Crusader. I was originally going to get a Nightforce NXS F1 3.5-15x50 with the MLR2 reticle. After doing a lot of research... I decided to get a USO SN-3 3.2-17x TPAL. Both scopes are TOP Notch and IMO can't go wrong with either one. I just decided to try something different since I already have a NF on my present rifle.

Anyway, If you can give me some feedback, experience, or advice... I'd appreciate it. Especially those of you who have a USO ... All Welcome

. My questions have to do with the Elevation Knob and the illumination Color

1. Should I get the regular EREK Knob or the EREK Knob with 110 click milestone??? (BTW, I'll be getting mil/mil with the Mil Scale GAP.)

2. Should I get a Blue Illuminated Reticle??? (They have blue along with red and green, I've never seen a blue illuminated reticle and thought it would be different... Is there any downside to the color compared to the red and green???)

I have the same scope with the the regular erek knob and the blue push button illumination. The USO is top notch and you cant go wrong with either of the erek knobs. Talk to Lazy21 here on the hide and he can get you a deal on the USO stuff. Great guy and awesome service, that is where I got my SN3 along with my USO spotter.

Definitely get the EREK elevation knob. The color of illumination doesn't really matter, doubt you'll use it that much. If you like Blue, go for it.

You might also consider getting the T-pal parallax adjustment. Better than trying to focus using the objective ring IMHO.

Personally I've never had any issues adjusting the erek. Most of the time if it's set to 300yds it focuses at any distance beyond 300 and barely exhibits parallax. Still if you use butler creek caps it can be somewhat annoying since they can block your view or potentially touch your barrel. My buddies Tpal was a lot better in regards to parallax and focus than a lot of other manufactures scopes. I really like my NF scopes, but I'm always fiddling with the parallax knob. (Really finicky, more so in regards to focus vs parallax, which is odd.)

I like the idea of a blue reticle. Every time I've tried shooting in lowlight, illumination of the scope's reticle in red will overpower the background image and eventually I end up losing it. Take a break and the image comes back. If a blue reticle makes eye tension and background image contrast better, I'd say it's an improvement. Of course it's hard to say without actually trying it. I think you should do it.

The short wavelength of blue light makes it focus in a different spot. Because of this our eyes would see it as chromatic aberration. So our eyes compensate by having less blue receptors. Also they're concentrated around the outside edges of the retina, not the center. We just don't see as much blue, so our perception just uses it to color things, but not really define them. Makes me wonder if the dead spot around the optic nerve will make this reticle harder or easier to pick up.

Only reason I know this stuff is because image compression compresses the blue channel of an image file to a greater extent. Makes that channel relatively useless for image masks in video game art. (What I do.)

I have a GAP TR (with slight differences) with a USO 1.8x10 EREK, Tpal and green illum. I have noticed some wash on wet surfaces with the green illum but it is esy to fix - turn it off. If I did it over again i would opt for the M1 dial and place the windage knob on left hand side to aid in top loading. I have a Templar hunting action so the M3 sometimes gets in the way.

I have several USO's and my new one will have the milestone, i think its a no brainer to get. That is my absolutely favorite option on any scope. I am using 3.2x17 SN4 with erek knob, GAP Mil reticle, (mil/mil) and absolutely love it. I was able to hit a 1135yd target with my AR15 in 6.5 grendel with this scope last year in Oklahoma.

As for color option, i am no way smarter than salmonaxe plus he confused me and made my brain hurt, but I perfer the red illumination.

If you have any amount of Red/Green color blindness (like me), reds and greens can be pretty dull. Try following a blood trail through green grass- or through almost anything at night... Anyway reds and greens can be pretty dull, especially mixed amongst each other. However, blue and yellow really pop- at least for me.

In the image above, the blue really stands out to my eyes, but the red is very dark and the green seems to blend into everything else.

I second the windage on the left, I have mine setup with windage and tpal on left and illum on right, works great for adjustments without moving from shooting position.
