slick up the bolt on my remington?

Re: slick up the bolt on my remington?

In my experience, the more you work the bolt the smoother it gets, just play with it some.

Re: slick up the bolt on my remington?

My SPS Tactical in .223 is alot smoother than my SPS Varmint in .308 and it's just because the .223 has been shot a ton and the .308 hasn't.

Re: slick up the bolt on my remington?

Just sit in front of the TV and rack the bolt about 10,000 times, and it will start to feel better over time. Mine is slick as glass. If you want to speed up that process, then send it to be coated in NP3.

Re: slick up the bolt on my remington?

I found that the best way to smooth up a Remington 700 bolt was to sell it and buy a Tikka.

Put toothpaste on it and run it a lot, or fine grit valve lapping compound. Just be sure you clean it well before you shoot it!

Awww.. you're just jealous 'cuz I can buy an entire rifle with a stiff, true action and a super smooth, short bolt throw for less than half of a custom action.

Just remember, if the Remington 700 action were all that, you'd have no business.

And yes... this is as close to trolling a thread as I will ever get. Just a little kind-hearted non-sibling rivalry.

This.

Re: slick up the bolt on my remington?

Or for the money you would lose trying to sell your bought-new, sold used Remington and then turn around and buy a new Tikka... you could have your action trued which would pay dividends beyond potentially reducing the character of your bolt throw.

Dry firing.

No polishing needed. Just put in the work and learn to run it. About half the people who pick up my old 700 ask me what I did to the bolt. All it took was a couple hours a week working on the fundamentals of marksmanship on my living room floor.

Of course my AI AE MkII had a glass smooth bolt right out of the box. It only cost five to six times what the Remington did.
