The last time I tried a new build, it was about 7 years ago. I got screwed over by HD rifles, anyone remember those guys? Hateca (Randy from R+D Precision) took on the mess that was left over and turned out a piece of awesomeness. Anyways, after a crappy divorce, that rifle fell by the wayside. Still miss that rifle

. Everything being great now, I decided to give it another shot. Almost have everything I need. 700 action at my local gunshop waiting to be picked up, Bartlein 6.5mm blank, Manner's T-2A stock, Nightforce F1, Looking at Surgeon's DBM. AMAZINGLY, everything has been off the shelf with no wait times. Blank from Grizzly, stock from Stocky's. The last time I did this the wait times were beyond crazy, especially being as impatient as I am. Now I need to start looking for a smith. I'm kinda partial to Randy, he did a great job last time and is just a few minutes down the road, but man there are alot of great smith's on the board now. Several years ago it seemed like it was Jared of APA, GAP, and Randy of R+D. Now there's a bunch of reputable guys. It's good to see good smith's aren't becoming more scarce, but growing. It's a positive sign. A gratuitous pic of my parts pile

Re: There is nothing like a new build....

Well since no one else posted I will. I'd love the opportunity to put it together if you decided to send it to Georgia. It's hard to beat having a good smith in your own back yard though. Makes it hard to ship it across the country. Id almost have to recommend you bring it to Randy if you were happy with his work and he is in your back yard.

Man, I can't say enough good things about Jered. And he's right about having a smith in your backyard. Luckily I'm in his backyard! I always come away from my visits at his shop with a better understanding of whatever it was I was working on, or at least an elevated bit of passion, as Jered's passion for building the best stuff out there is nothing short of contagious. Now if he could just keep me away form the Dremmel...

Re: There is nothing like a new build....

APA will build an excellent rifle. Ive done it 4 times and all have been hammers. All are hunting rifles and the passion Jered has for hunting shows in his finished product.
When it is time to build #5, Jered will get the call.
