Remington 700 Bolt lug question?

I am brand new to bolt rifles, so please excuse my inexperience:

I have a 700 5r, and noticed that the bolt lug corners are all very sharp. Would it be a good idea to soften the corners? TIA, any other recommendations for newbie shooter would be great.

I know bolt guns are all new and exciting to you but you should not be rubbing up against the bolt lugs. Leave them alone and quit rubbing up against them. The parts the lugs rub up against are just fine with them as they are.

the bolt lugs are actually not even needed, id just cut them off

You made me laugh that time!

Re: Remington 700 Bolt lug question?

Congratulations! You purchased an awesome shooting weapon. If this is your fist bolt gun...you did an awesome job of picking it out.

I have a 700 with the 5R barrel and love it. Mine had the H&S stock on it and I had the action bedded in. Less then a week ago we shot 2 X pennies at 100 yards and 1 and 200 yards. The gun has the ability to shoot very accurately.

The 5R rifiling is the rifiling the Army uses on the M-24.

I saw a You-Tube video where a guy shot a wild sheep at 800+ yards. I paid 1,100 for mine off gunsinternational and for the money it kicks butt. I would suggest that you do not change ANYTHING on the gun without talking to a professional shop first.

I use a Leupold 3.5 X 14 MK-4 and it fits the weapon perfect with Med rings.

Great choice on the weapon, break the barrel in correctly and enjoy years of great shooting!

Anyone know the b.c. of a Remmy bolt? VJJ might be onto something here. 200 bucks a shot and the projectile goes the wrong direction...

I am 100% with you. Maybe Darwin’s theory can be tested when VJJ tries the method he recommends to others.

Well you just need to hang out in better threads.

Leave the lugs alone. Shoot it 1000 times and it will smooth out.
