Considering trying my hand at an inletting and bedding job. I want a nice wood thumbhole stock blank to start with. Wood type/Colorado isn't really important to me, there are plenty of finishing options out there to take care of that. Anyone have any solid recommendations?

Re: custom wood stock

You can get a nice english Walnut semi-inlet or you can work on a wood-laminate.

I'd rather work on real wood than laminate.
Wood stock making is hard. If Im guna do it I want it to be classic and beautiful.

Not too many nice walnut thumbholes out there.

Re: custom wood stock

I have done probably 12 Richards MicroFits and have been pretty satisfied, as I was not expecting a stock that would prepped to finish. The stocks from Richards will need a fair amount of work to get them ready to finish. Another issue is their quoted delivery time is about off by half, order it now and when you have almost forgotten about it it will arrive.

Not trying to discourage anyone I am just sharing my experience, I will probably do more in the future.
