Rifle Scopes Full review of Bushnell HDMR with the G2 reticle

Re: Full review of Bushnell HDMR with the G2 reticle

I like the ARC G3M3 rings. They've engineered some good ideas. I especially appreciate the double opposing strap wrench design.

Parroting the 20 MOA mount. It enables the scope to be close to optical center for long range use instead of being dialed almost all the way up. When the scope is dialed all the way up the image quality starts to degrade and also probably not the best thing for the scope internals.

With a 0 cant you should have approx 13 mils up elevation left. So around 1100Y for the main crosshair but you can holdover more.

Re: Full review of Bushnell HDMR with the G2 reticle

I haven't found the answer to this question: Is the GAP G2 reticle different than the Bushnell G2? If so, how?

Re: Full review of Bushnell HDMR with the G2 reticle

Thanks for the great review should make purchasing decision much easier.

Re: Full review of Bushnell HDMR with the G2 reticle

Just got them in. One is on my .338LM and the other on my .308.

Great review man, you covered everything! Thank you.

Re: Full review of Bushnell HDMR with the G2 reticle

Christ, I am definitely going to have to sell some stuff including my soul but after the video and the write up how could you not. Nice work man!

Re: Full review of Bushnell HDMR with the G2 reticle

Mine gets here wednesday. I did as well sell some things to help fund my build. Good bye DSLR that was sitting in my closet over a year. Hello, HDMR.

Re: Full review of Bushnell HDMR with the G2 reticle

Got my two in last week. Put one on my TRG-42 w/ Badger Max 50 rings and Near base. Have not shot it with the HDMR yet, but damn it looks sweet inside and out.

Since I have seen you ask in 2 different spots, I will answer.

Easy answer: Badger 20 MOA base and med rings will make you happy as a can be. Why get a 0 MOA base when you can get 20 MOA more for free (same price)? You will never regret having too much elevation, and with the HDMR, you will have plenty of elevation to reach anywhere. I still have not heard one good reason to not get an elevated base. After a 20 MOA base, you should have approx 15 - 20 mils up left over and 5- 10 mils wasted down elev.

Regards,
DT </div></div>

Actually, that is where I ended up with a 30 MOA base, 12 Mils of wasted down elevation and 22 Mils of up elevation. I think in my case a 45 MOA base would be better. I'd get another 4 Mils of usable.

I'm very happy with my scope so far. Taking it to TVP this weekend to give it a real workout.

Re: Full review of Bushnell HDMR with the G2 reticle

TXCraig1: I like your pool better ;-)

I now want one for my JP CTR-02 arriving tomorrow. Who has the best price on these? It looks like I missed the group buy thing :-(

After getting mine mounted up with a 20MOA base, I have 24mil up and 9 mil wasted down. Crazy they so close. Different actions I spose.

Also crazy they advertised 26mil travel, and we both have around 34mils

Good luck trying it out, I love mine so far.

One of my favorite scopes, Just wish they could get the Turrets like the Night force high-speed ones.

Re: Full review of Bushnell HDMR with the G2 reticle

Great review.

Does anyone have some through scope pics at different magnifications/ranges?

i have more range than my 7mm/08 does

thanks to benchmark barrels ,especially jerry, for this barrel
it rocks

Re: Full review of Bushnell HDMR with the G2 reticle

Yeah I'd say that name fits haha. Thanks for the pics. I really like the reticle, look forward to my first mil/mil also.

So with all that built in cant, do you mainly just use the holdovers?

If anyone has a pic at 3-5 power I wouldn't mind seeing that too. I'm at low power a lot early am and late pm. Any pictures outdoors?

Re: Full review of Bushnell HDMR with the G2 reticle

Good job Steve. Tell the boys at Bushnell you sold another 1(HDMR). Only this 1 will be going on the 1st XP-100 handgun probably. Chuck Mcintosh out of Gillette just built me a 270 SAUM/8T McGowen with McMillan rear grip stock. Oughtta' be just the ticket for sniping coyotes way da' heck out there. Kinda' wish Bushy had a std.-turret system with this reticle though for hunting.

Re: Full review of Bushnell HDMR with the G2 reticle

How would this scope compare with the SSHD 5x20 since they are both built by the same company?

The great thing about this scope is the ability to hold or dial, whatever time allows.
Another nice feature to me is the minimal tunneling at low power. I think it tunnels from 3-4 power ant thats all. Very nice.

I Prefer everything about my HDMR over the SS except maybe the rect. (tie) and the fact HDMR has no illum. I dont mind the 5 mil knobs and they have same ele travel. Glas better on the HDMR as are the knobs. Only thing I really dislike about the SS is the location of the paralax knob. Its tough to get to behind the illum.

Re: Full review of Bushnell HDMR with the G2 reticle

This HDMR looks like a great scope, but Im affraid it might look like a fat girl riding a mo-ped on my Savage 10 HS.

I just re read what I asked and it makes no sense. With a lot of built in cant like you're running on the Gecko that lets you use almost all of your turret's elevation travel and makes no difference with the holdover marks... Not sure what I was thinking haha, I'm going to blame it on lack of sleep though.

Re: Full review of Bushnell HDMR with the G2 reticle

to answer your question redirt

i dial for distance and use the reticle for wind

but i only need 9 mills to a 1000 yds
so it would be possible to use holdovers for a match
i just dont think im ready to hold 4.3 mills and shoot fast
there is no mark to use for orientation on steel

well see im going to try some this weekend ....

Re: Full review of Bushnell HDMR with the G2 reticle

Found these pics over on optics talk. I am ordering one next week. Cant wait till more details of the next design are released. A zero stop would be sweet!

How about some through the scope pics of that reticle. Would love to see it on different mag levels.

Re: Full review of Bushnell HDMR with the G2 reticle

All the ones I can find only have 5 mils per rev. The one in that picture shows 10 mils per rev.

Some have said there are rumors of a new model. Read the post at the top of page 2 of this thread. That is why I posted these pics. I found those with my google fu looking for more info and reticle pics of this model with 5 mil per rev. Needless to say 10 mil per rev and a zero stop would be nice.

Re: Full review of Bushnell HDMR with the G2 reticle

Brett,

I'll see what I can put together over the next couple days. I gotta get a really stable rifle vise and a scope leveling device and install kit, so I'll probably have to go up to Cabela's tomorrow to do that. Local gun stores don't stock Wheeler or Tipton or Hyscore (?). Anyways, I'll get to it soon as I get the scope installed.

I'm still ambivalent about not having gotten the H59 from HorusVision, but, I'll give this a try, and if it doesn't work for me, I'll put it up here for sale. Freaking one year warranty from those folks pissed me off.

Re: Full review of Bushnell HDMR with the G2 reticle

This scope only has a one year warranty? If so F&#$ that!

Re: Full review of Bushnell HDMR with the G2 reticle

I haven't looked at the paperwork, but it's the HorusVision scope from there site that has the one year warranty. Yeah, that's exactly why I didn't buy it from them. What I don't know is whether or not the HDMR gotten from HorusVision has only a one year warranty. It seems as though it does.

Just checked the papers from George's HDMR and it is indeed a life-time, transferrable warranty from Bushnell.

Re: Full review of Bushnell HDMR with the G2 reticle

That is good to know. Bushy needs to update their website with their new scopes.

Thats what Im looking for in some pics is how big the reticle gets at different mags, outside against some targets would be sweet. Either way im taking the plundge and getting one. My first mil/mil optic. Had big plans for a USO but hospital bills have me by the balls!!! lol

We should possibly consider starting a new thread on HDMR pics and info or something similar. I dont want to offend the OP and get off topic from his review anymore than we already have. I appreciate his time invested in the testing that he shared with us. Just think others should be able to see it as well without being cluttered with other shit.

Re: Full review of Bushnell HDMR with the G2 reticle

Thanks for clarifying that. That would have been a real let down on what seems to be an awesome scope. I have asked this in other circles, but how is this going to stack up to the SSHD 5x20x50mm.

Re: Full review of Bushnell HDMR with the G2 reticle

yeah, I got worried there for a bit too
laugh.gif
One beautiful optic. Affirmative on the need for Bushnell to update their site. I have no experience with the SS scope, so I can't comment

ahh man... am i the last in line to get this very fine optic.

Looking forward to it...

Re: Full review of Bushnell HDMR with the G2 reticle

Very cool. It took watching the video to realize that those big holes in the target are actually wood screws attaching your target to it's backer. At first glance it looked like your box test was all over the place. Then when I saw the size of the target in the video I was like, "Oh wait.", and looked at the pics again. Just barely can make out those holes on each of the black dots.

Looks like it tracked really good!
