Hi guys

I know y'all are encyclopedias of awesome knowledge when it comes to long range gear/skills/techniques so I have a bunch of pictures of my guns (http://imgur.com/a/GuE9O#0). among those my 16" LWRC R.E.P.R. I would like to ideally reach out to around 800 yrds with this system. However I do realize that it is near impossible to do so with the current scope (Nikon 4.5-14X40 MIL dot reticle) and with the current barrel length. the scoped is mounted using Warne QD rings and a rail riser is utilized in order to allow for the use of flip up sights as well. I have listed a potential furniture consideration and was wondering if you guys could give me some inputs.

P.S: I will be moving to Cincinnati, OH in about a week and would like to know if there are any classes available for the long range discipline and if there is anybody interested in shooting sometime

Re: LWRC R.E.P.R, what should I put on it?

Skip the Timney, go with a Geiselle, skip the Hydraulic buffer, skip the Spotting scope, skip the tripod. Seems like you are throwing money at shit you don't really quite need.

Just out of curiosity, how did you come to this list of stuff and why did you choose the things that you did.

Re: LWRC R.E.P.R, what should I put on it?

USO 1.8-10x37mm would fit the bill with rings in the 1.06"-1.2" range (if you prefer a little tighter cheek weld as I do).

Re: LWRC R.E.P.R, what should I put on it?

Good lord I just noticed you said 4600 for the scope and rings, which USO are you getting that is that price? I'd have to choose something else over that.

Re: LWRC R.E.P.R, what should I put on it?

You don't need to spend $4600 on a scope and rings to get to 800 yards. I've shot out to 1k+ with just a fixed 10.

Also, it's not the wisest of ideas to post photos of your guns with the serial numbers clearly visible and readable...

well this is the scope that would be fully customized with the H37 reticle etc.

any suggestion on what scope to put on it?

well these are just preliminary iteration of what I thought would be useful. again im a noob at this and would like to have some pro feedback before I spend money. now the question is that how would i make shot adjustments without a spotting scope and tripod? and is there anything wrong with the timney? the reason why I suggested it was due to ease of installation

Re: LWRC R.E.P.R, what should I put on it?

why the H37, what scope. For that kind of money I would choose a Schmidt and Bender or Hensoldt with the H37 if you are dead set on that reticle.

Still questioning why you chose everything on your list?

Why not use the scope in front of your face to make corrections? Are you punching paper or shooting steel? You buy what you want, but do realize you are spending useless money. The only thing on your list there that is a solid choice is the Magpul PRS and Atlas bipod. I also do not understand your reasoning of choosing the Timney, just because it is an easy install? AR triggers are easy as easy can get, push two pins out and push two back in. Skip the Palm with ATRAG and get an FDAC card for the load you are shooting.

Please don't take this as disrespectful, but like you asked in your first post. You need some help from someone who knows what they are talking about when it comes to shooting. My recommendation is that you spend some time shooting prior to buying all the cool doo dads

I will be shooting paper. I was actually looking at the Schmidt and Bender with the H37. I however liked the fact that I could customize a USO scope. again the reason why i chose my list is to the best of my knowledge which is not pro at all. and partially because I wanned to reach out far. as far as the scope corrections go I don't know if I'm not doing it right or for whatever reason, I don't see the holes beyond 100 yrds. and this is looking at the paper at 14 power, shoot n' see 12"X12". and again I would like to emphasize here that I do not want to come out as defensive here but really looking for some guidance from the pros. So honestly without making sure I'm not spending a dime .

Re: LWRC R.E.P.R, what should I put on it?

I live in Cincinnati and the first thing I will say is that the shooting scene here is severely hurting. You can become a member at the Miami Gun Club and shoot out to 600. www.miamirifle-pistol.org/ That being said you have to shut down the road etc to shoot out that far...So as far as shooting 800yds in Cincy you're going to have to look around and get permission from a private landowner which is by no means impossible, but could prove challenging. For the accuracy that you're likely to get with your REPR I would run a lower power BDC optic such as the Leupold MK6... You should be able to drill steel or man/deer sized targets out to 600 or better... Keep in mind that you can't deer hunt in Ohio with a rifle. It's a shotgun only state so you'll have to buy a Kentucky license to hunt with you're REPR...If that's even what you want to do.

I'd also agree with the other guys about your optics choice...$4600.00 for a US optics is crazy. They make great stuff but you're talking an outrageous amount of money for some glass. Oh and starting out (like I am) just get the Knights Bullet Flight App and JBM App for your phone and go from there. You don't need all of that stuff in Cincinnati. Just my .02

Re: LWRC R.E.P.R, what should I put on it?

What USO and what specs were you going to get?

I consistently shoot my 16" gas gun with a 1.1-8 powered optic to 800. You don't need all that much magnification. Looking at your REPR, I would suggest sticking a Magpul ACS on there and running with it, the collapsible stock will come in handy if you ever start shooting positional stuff, also the PRS is a heavy bitch.

Here is a list of stuff I would put on it if it were my REPR.

S&B 3-12 w/ Gen II- http://www.eurooptic.com/schmidt-bender-pmii-3-12x50-l-p-gen-ii-mildot-mrad-mtc-ccw.aspx
Badger Rings- http://www.eurooptic.com/badger-ordnance-34mm-usmc-m40a3-standard-100-steel-ring-set-p-n-306-75.aspx
Magpul ACS Stock- http://store.magpul.com/product/MAG370/87
FDAC- http://www.triadtactical.com/Field-Density-Altitude-Compensator.html
Atlas Bipod- http://www.triadtactical.com/Accu-Shot-Atlas-Bipod.html

and I would spend the rest of that money you wanted on either ammo or a reloading setup

Re: LWRC R.E.P.R, what should I put on it?

why do you want QD? My ACS works just fine on this setup

yea man I've been looking at that particular club. problem is that I gotta go on the waiting list which I will sign up for it. I will post the scope specs shortly.

I want to have the option of using my flip up sights for anything closer than 100 yrds. is that not advised?

Re: LWRC R.E.P.R, what should I put on it?

will this REPR be used as a Home Defense/Long Range/Zombie/SHTF/CQB gun?

QD is great provided you understand the use, I have a QD mount on the gun above, but I also run it with an Aimpoint T1 and a HDMR when I want to. If you also notice I do not have iron sights.

My advice is worth exactly what you paid for it.

hopefully a little bit of all mentioned but more streamlined towards long range. I agree with what you said but since the rifle came with the flip up sights I kinda feel bad if I don't utilize it

Re: LWRC R.E.P.R, what should I put on it?

alright so here is the specs for the 'crazy' scope. some of the items are capitalized by the USO website when I copied them. So I'm not yelling at y'all
Scope Specs:
USO SN-3 5-25x T-PAL $2,720.00
KNOB ELEVATION EREK 1/10 MIL $175.00
US#3 1/10 MIL WINDAGE STOP $175.00
TUBE 34MM $120
RETICLE HORUS H-37 $400
EYEPIECE HOUSING LO PROFILE - RAPID FOCUS - INTERNAL LEVEL $85
EYEPIECE EXTENDED EYE RELIEF $250
Flip Open Lens Cover 58mm Low Profile $15.00
Flip Open Eyepiece Cover 20mm Field Observation Scope $15.00
Mount UMQDS 34mm 0 MOA $370.00

Grand Total $4,325.00

Re: LWRC R.E.P.R, what should I put on it?

That seems to me like a ton of scope on a 16" .308. Even if you decide that is the one you want, the 34mm tube (and maybe the EREK) seems unnecessary with the Horus, and you will likely find the extended eye relief unnecessary too. Almost $400 off right there if you decide you do want the giant 5-25.

I think the winning USO choice for a 16" semi .308 would be one of the 1-8 power versions in the wings, and it would end up being cheaper than what you are looking at now.

Re: LWRC R.E.P.R, what should I put on it?

With those type of funds i'd go with the Nightforce f1 scope.

REPRs are outstanding machines, you will not be dissapointed.

My REPR with a NF F1 had no trouble on steel at 1k with FGMM 168s right out of the box.

Have faith. Practice.

Re: LWRC R.E.P.R, what should I put on it?

sure I believe in practice makes perfect too

Re: LWRC R.E.P.R, what should I put on it?

That is a crap load of magnification for the 16"

I have a REPR with the 20" and only have 15 on top of it. Magnification is not he nd all be all..

I also have a. 16" upper for it and will only have about a 10x on it..

Mirage will bite you something fierce on 25x

A HUGE + 1 on the trigger. Nothing better out there .

Re: LWRC R.E.P.R, what should I put on it?

I suppose you're setting this up as a DMR and not a battle rifle, right? I wouldn't make it a 100% dedicated precision setup unless it were the 20" barrel version, and make a SASS setup out of it.

That is REALLY bad advice for the typical AR platform (including the REPR) unless a .5" riser is used. With rings that low, a normal shooter WILL NOT be able to get a proper cheekweld.

This may be true. I ran a REPR for a short period with the above setup... worked for me as I prefer a cheek weld that's a little tighter then others. To each his own, but you are correct. Most prefer the typical 1.5" range, but to say it won't work is false. Larue makes the LT120 which is 1.28". I use that with a NF 3.5-15x50mm on my Ar-10 plaform with no issues (I actually sold my LT111 mount because it was to high). I prefer my scope rides as close to the bore as possible.
