Not sure if this is the right spot to post this but i just wanted to say hi my names Mike and i hope to get some ideas for future builds and learn more about shooting rom people that know a lot more than me

My rifle is a Remington 700 AAC-SD with Nikon 4-16x50 scope, NF 20 moa base, US Optics mount, AAC muzzle break, B&C stock, harris bipods, and i have a badger knob but have yet to install it.

video shooting at 600 yards using the mil dots for the first time. shot a group then made and adjustment to the right. the rain picked up a bit more and i could barely make out the target so i sat in my truck and waited a bit. jumped out and made another shot and it landed to the right. shooting 168gr Federal SMKs.

i hope to shoot out to 1000 one of these days and ill pick up some 175gr SMKs when i do get that chance

currently working on turning my SOCOM 16 into a brush gun good to at least 300 yards (scope mount and bushnell 3200 10x40 scope most likely). i have little use for a CQB style weapon anymore so I'm making it more useful without having to sell it jet to get a scout squad (which is what i wish i had now).

after this I'm planning on building a rifle based off a stevens 200 action as a "budget build" in .223 and thats the primary reason i want to see how well the bushnell scope works.

well once again i hope to learn a lot more here and hope everyone is going well.

Re: New member from Houston Tx

Hey Mike, I'm new here too and as coincidence would have it, I'm from Houston! I'm curious as to where you go to shoot at over 600 yards - the longest local range that I know of only goes up to 600.

Re: New member from Houston Tx

Bayou has a 1000 yard range, that's where I shoot. I'd like to shoot even further if anyone knows a place.

Re: New member from Houston Tx

i haven't found a place to shoot over 600 yet. I'm sorry if i made it seem that way. i am still searching for a place that lets me shot that far without needing a membership because i do not plan on staying around houston my whole life lol.

i shoot at american shooting center though. i haven't shot in a couple of months but i will be going once a month most likely once i get my gun budget together and more organized lol.

the scope is a mil-dot scope. i had never shot using mil-dots before so it was new to me hence the excitement in the video.

I have used ACOGS out to 500 on an M16A4 before but i preferred iron sights at that range for some reason. the concept of holdover is he same as using mils i know that but for some reason using my set up was a lot more comfortable that an ACOG on an M16. thankfully i never had to qualify with an ACOG like they supposedly do now in the Marines (i think one of my buddies thats still in said they do. not positive though). we mainly just did it for practice before we deployed and ACOGs started being issued to everyone getting deployed (i didn't have optics issued my first 3 deployments so an ACOG was a new tool to get used to for sure for me).

Re: New member from Houston Tx

Welcome from a neighbor in North Texas. You are in the right place if you want to learn.

That is a good looking stick. Did you do the paint job?

I have two Stevens 200's in 223. I plan on leaving the center feed pretty much as it is for now, with the exception of replacing the factory stock. Now the older stagger feed is a whole different story. I plan on converting it to 223AI.

Re: New member from Houston Tx

nice stick. I am in Houston too. i have heard great rings about Bayou. Just finished my rig and need to get to the range and see how she shoots.

Re: New member from Houston Tx

Hello mike! I'm new here also! I wanna shoot around Houston! Let's find a yard!

Re: New member from Houston Tx

thanks again everyone. yea i did the paint myself.

ill most likely not get the chance to go shoot until the end of the month. most of the time when i do go shoot i typically only shoot about 30 rounds in an hour lol. i shoot 2-3 shots then hang out and relax a bit and shoot the sh@t with my cousin (he owns the same rifle except built a bit differently). would love to meet up and shoot some time though. i typically shoot at american shooting center because I've already passed the qual to go past 300 (just make a 5 shot group in the center white and you can pass).

my five shot group. its not that good at all really but i shot 1 round every 5 minutes due to the heat and me stopping to drink water and sit in the shade lol.

would be cool to all find a day that is good for everyone and meet up and shoot. ill have a scope on my SOCOM 16 at the end of the month and want to see how it works at 300 just for shits and giggles. ill bring the bolt gun if others will be shooting longer though so that I'm not left out lmao

Re: New member from Houston Tx

First off, Welcome MIke! Im sure you will like this website. There are a ton of very helpful people on here so don't be afraid to ask any questions.

Second, I have been wanting to join Bayou Rifle club for a while but i heard you need to be a member. I have been shooting out to 600 yards at American Shooting Center for a while and its getting too easy for me. i would like to push my rifle out to 1000 yards, would you mind giving me some info on Bayou?

You can shoot matches without being a member, they are listed on their calendar.

For normal range usage, you do need to be a member and qualified on the 1000 to shoot on it.

Re: New member from Houston Tx

sounds like a lot of ppl are shooting at ASC. ill be able to know more about my schedule later in the month. we should definitely all meet up and do some shooting.

Re: New member from Houston Tx

Everyone that wanted to meet up and shoot some time send me a PM. Would be cool to get a day set that everyone can meet and shoot out to 600.
