Just FYI, one of the significant limitations of the way that cloudflare works today is that it doesn't presently allow for caching of what it believes to be dynamic content.

What this means in effective terms is that if the reason you are using cloudflare has more to do with availability, the ONLY page on this site which cloudflare's availability feature will be effective for... is the homepage.

And setting the caching level to "aggressive" has the downside that there may be pages here that update more frequently than cloudflare is going back to get native copies, so I can understand why that's not optimal.

Don't get me wrong, you still get the reporting, and the CDN features for site content, etc, but not the availability bit. Oh, and realize that going through cloudflare, part of their revenue stream is also getting all of that information behind the scenes on how users use your site as well.

Just a few things to know as you use the service.

The problem is, we are getting constant DDoS attacks, and they are using it to split the system up in order to prevent it.

They are attempting to crush the system hourly, not just weekly.

We added part and it is helping to speed up the system and prevent the site from slowing down during high traffic time, which, alongside the attacks we fending off were crushing the server.

Yeah, CF's setup is pretty good for dealing with that. At least as one step.

One of the downsides of running a pretty good firearms oriented community is that it has become pretty damn easy for Joe McDoofus who doesn't agree with firearms to run a small client in the background making DDoS easy to organize and execute.

Basically the server guys were running out of options to deal with the downside of getting attacked. CF was one option, as well as dividing up the databases and content.

It's gotten pretty bad over the last 3 months and it was stalling out the site. So far it is working out well in terms of keeping the site running at a consistent speed and staying above the attacks.

What do they recommend to do to mitigate having to input the capcha words every time you refresh pages or go between threads?

Captcha is not installed on the site can you take a screen shot of what you are seeing ?

I have never seen this nor do I fully understand what you are saying is taking place ?

There is a security feature in Cloudflare proxy layer, that if a user or the ISP the user is coming from ( Network Range ).

Has been reported in the near past for doing something odd... then a capcha will be presented as a security verification.

No idea why - bornhunter04 - is getting this all the time... I've not seen any capcha's at all since we turned the CloudFlare on.

bornhunter04 - can you visit - "whatismyipaddress.com" and then email your IP_ADDRESS to - support at geovario dot com - so we can look into your issue in more depth?

Okay, if it's triggered by an IP address range that could explain some things. The network I'm operating on is set up a bit different.....My guess is something in our proxy server is triggering it.

Here's a screenshot of what I'm seeing. Hope it helps.

Update: 1446 CST Firefox is no longer showing access denied for the hide for the 'tab' for the hide. As in, it actually shows 'insert subforum here' - Snipers's Hide Forums instead of the access denied I was getting earlier. Also, it's not prompting me for the above listed screen/captcha words anymore.

If you were the guy who filled out the "optional message" on that form, then - yes we manually white listed your IP_Address, so you should no longer be questioned.

In the past 12 hours, the Hide here has been attacked more than 40,000 times.

For those who are seeing the screen shot above, fill in your username in the box that says "Send the site owner a message", and we'll add you to the whitelist.

As was already stated, why are getting this message at all? likely someone or many someone's on your same Internet Service Provider are doing things that are being trapped as questionable.

Although it's always good to check to make sure you have up to date security software installed on your machine. As those "40,000" attacks that came in - in the past 12 hours - were 100% from virus and spamware infected computers around the internet.

Once you know your external public IP - send the info to - support at geovario dot com

And we'll look into the issue further.

I am now getting a dns resolution error message when I try to log on. This is from a different computer. Not my home ip address. Any help would be appreciated.
