Nightforce scope cover for low clearance rail ?

Hi guys - was hoping to get a solution on an issue that I'm currently experiencing with the combination of using a NXS 12-42x power scope with a 20MOA unimount base on a 0MOA picatinny rail.

Due to the tightness of the objective lens to the rail, it seems impossible to put any kind of cover on the scope to protect it - whilst the bikini type cover that comes with the NXS will work well on the eyepiece end, it won't fit on the objective end - even if I take the sunshade off ...

I haven't had an opportunity to check out the Butler Creek type covers in person, but unless the rim section is super thin, I can't imagine they would fit either ... having said this, I can't be the only person here with this combo and was therefore wondering if anyone else has come across this issue and how you resolved it if so ?

Thanks in advance - have attached the picture below which should help visualise the situation :

If you can live without the sunshade (I never use mine), take it off. Then you should have enough room for the bikini or BC covers.

Thanks LCJones - will give it a go - judging it by eye, any cover would have to take a deep breath before getting on the end of that objective lens !

The Butler Creek cap isn't going to be much if any thinner. The NF will give more being rubber, the BC is a lot harder.

I see two options.

1. Get a taller mount.
2. If that's a 56mm, get a 50mm.

Sorry, been there and that's all I've ever come up with.

Thanks for replying 1911GunNut - Unfortunately Nightforce only do 2 unimounts - I got the higher of the two at 1.375" ...

Being a new shooter, this might be a stupid question but if I get a taller mount, but still with 20MOA built in, would the additional height affect my ability to retain the ability to range between 100-1000 yards ?

Thanks in advance.

Get the BC and cut off the bottom near the rail.
It will look chunti, but will be able to fit the scope cap over the end of the scope (with or without the sunshade).

and if the cap won't close because of the cap being cut...you can use some black electric tape to hold the cutout part together.

just a thought for a quick fix.

Where as that could be a work around, I had to laugh...the thought of doing that on an AX with a NF....

I just trimmed my factory bikini cover like the picture of the Uncle Mikes and it works fine.

The reason why i said it'd look "chunti"...
although, i have seen this done with a Premier 5-25x56

Despite how it looks...at least it would be a quick & temporary fix

No.

Once you plug the height into your ballistic calculator it will be almost invisible to you. The only time it will have any noticeable affect will be shooting inside 50 yards to contact range. However you can still compensate for it with a dope correction.

Got a few suggestions to get me going - thanks all and thanks LoneWolfUSMC for confirmation.
