I enjoy running these cameras. I have a three year history with a buck I named 'Curly" due to the slight curl in his browtines. I passed on him in 2010 numerous times. I pegged him as a 3 year old then seeing his care free nature and he seemed to be up moving alot during daylight. In 2011 I saw him twice Nov. 4 and 17th. A drastic decrease from the year before. I ran cameras late season in 2011 and never got a picture of him after season. Well he finally showed up to a corn pile on the 3rd. I was thinking he got wacked in the gun season. He still has a little of growing time before he sheds the velvet but I was really expecting more antler this year. I think the drought has had significant effect on antler developement.

Re: trailcam pics and 3 years

Looks like his frame is similar but he put on a good bit of mass. Nice buck I hope we get to see him in some trophy pictures in a couple months.

Re: trailcam pics and 3 years

More than likely that deer has reached his genetic potential. He may not get much bigger than he is now if at all. He's a mature deer, put him on the hit list.

Re: trailcam pics and 3 years

I agree, I think he is peaked. Judging by the first picture to the last his rack has already narrowed, but that could be caused by various things. He's a shooter all the way.

Re: trailcam pics and 3 years

I think he's peaked too or at least if he does improve it won't be much. With his genetics he's kind of limited. Nice buck though, good luck this year

Re: trailcam pics and 3 years

I agree he is peaked on his potential for antlers but i am not so much concerned with that as I am putting this deer on the ground as being a 5 year old possibly 6. Last year when I saw him him in November he was built like a horse. Would I like to see a 160 inch rack on him? Sure! it wont happen though. Killing a 5 or 6 year old deer with a bow challenging and a trophy? Hell yes. Hopefully I'll be holding his rack infront of a camera and posting up pics this fall.

Re: trailcam pics and 3 years

I have watched deer like this on the trail cam and they vanish come hunting season. But it is always good knowing they are out there and you still have a chance of seeing him again.

Re: trailcam pics and 3 years

that's why you let them get old.

no idea if he's peaked or not... looks like he's getting bigger every year, plus who knows what the environmental factors were for each year that the deer was alive?

I have trail camera photos of a deer that's probably in excess of 10 years old, and this year he finally went down from the previous year... but he's ancient.

let 'em grow!
