Well I have a 300 win set up and now want to build a full custom 260.

I would like to obtain the parts and then have a smith put the gun together.

I am asking just for average prices so that I may have an understanding of cost for the gun.

I would need the following if you think of anything else please let me know.

I will be putting the rifle in a tube stock

700 action trued and blueprinted
install timney trigger
chamber and install a barrel and thread the barrel
Finish in either cerakote or dura coat. Have not looked into finishes enought to detirmine.

What else should I be doing and what else have I missed?

Re: what are some average pricings

You've got a good gunsmith just down the road in Wellington with Short Action Customs.

His prices are on this page http://shortactioncustoms.com/?cat=3

Other things to consider getting done:
Bolt knob
Side bolt release
True scope base threads

Re: what are some average pricings

That sounds about $2,250 what you have listed. All depends on smith though some charge alot different than others

Hopefully, you are not intending to use the 300 win mag gun to make the 260 gun...

Your 300 win mag uses a long action and a magnum bolt face.
A 260 uses a short action and a 308 bolt face.

Re: what are some average pricings

The last two builds I had done were by two different gunsmiths, but they both did the same things. Trued action including the bolt, fitting, chambering and crowning the barrel. One was for $325 and the other $415. Like said above, prices can vary by gunsmiths. I believe average price for one color cerakote for a barreled action is about $175. Trigger install might run about $85. I'm just going by the prices I've seen in the PNW area. I have no idea what it would cost to glue an action into a tube gun.

Re: what are some average pricings

Not planning on using the 300 win mag action. I have already obtained a 308 action that the gun was beat up. Ordered a 12 flute kreiger barrel. Just figuring on what else I am going to have into.

If you are gonna true it, have a new bolt put in at the same time.
That will clean up the extraction camming and better fit the bolt to the receiver's bore size.
A bolt runs $125 plus what your smith charges to weld on the new handle.
Then the barrel, lug, trigger, stock, bottom metal and any finishing.
That's about it.

Re: what are some average pricings

Don't forget that sweet custom actions can be had for ~$1000, that require zero extra work.

Blueprinting, new bolts, new bolt timing etc etc generally ends up costing damn near what a custom does.

Just a thought.

Re: what are some average pricings

Prebanpaul, here are our prices:

Truing single point, bolt and action $125
Barreling. Chambering, crowning, labeling $275
Threading for Brake or Can $125
Cerakote in any color $220

Nothing to knock trigger pins in and make it work right.

Thats labor only. Still need your parts, which it sounds like you're working on. We have little things like oversized recoil lugs and scope rails.

We're 2-3 months right now.

Good luck with your build.

PS, Short Action Customs is a great builder and if you guys are local to each other they might be your best bet.
