Help me find the muzzlebrake I want...

Looking for brake that:

Can be turned to match taper of my barrel (medium Palma - so .850" at the muzzle)

Has 5/8-24 threads, so I can put a can on it later on.

Only vents out the sides, not the top or bottom

...and the kicker...

Is 1.5" long or SHORTER. Want this to be as short as possible, as my barrel is already a little longer than I'd like, and I don't want to give up the speed.

This is for a .284 Winchester that weighs about 15lb all up. Recoil is totally manageable as it is, but I'd like to take the edge off to more easily see my trace and impacts. I'm missing some right now, and I don't like it. I realize this rather "small" brake is not going to be super-duper effective and thats ok. Like I said - just trying to take the edge off.

Oh... Big +1 for links and/or pics!

Thanks everyone

Check out surefire they have a few depending on what kind of can you want to put on it. If you're just looking at getting a screw on can for those threads check out the Badger Ordnance FTE break.

Re: Help me find the muzzlebrake I want...

The Surefire and FTE are both over 2.5" long. That's longer than what I'm looking for.

Hoping to find something 1.5" long or shorter.

+1 on the Badger Thruster. Spec'd at 2.375" raw, but that includes the threaded portion. It only adds 1.65" of length beyond the crown of my 308 barrel.

The upward angled ports do a good job of keeping muzzle rise and dustclouds to a minimum. Turned to match the barrel, it makes for a very clean install.

KDF makes a great custom muzzle break. It is small and super effective. But, it vents in all dimensions (sides, top, bottom). I have one on a 7mm rem mag and it really has tamed that round. They claim reduction down to a .243, but I do not have one of those for comparison. It is substantially less than my .270, however.

Get a Thruster and have the first port lathe turned off.

2156SMK designed basically this but with only one port. It's very short, but still reasonably effective.

I had an OPS brake which I had the second port section removed, works just about as well as it did with the two ports and is also very short.
