Les Baer stopped make bolt action!!!!!

I was on les baers website notice the bolt action tab was gone.
So I gave them a call they stated they had discontinued the bolt action line say they are so busy something had to go.

I love les baers but did not like the bolt actions due to lighter weight barrel and b&c stock did not match the price tag in my mind. I am surprised that the stopped them, makes me wonder if Baer and stiller actions did not have a falling out.

Given the price they were asking for a rifle with a B&C stock, I cant believe they sold any. Dont buy for a minute that they were too busy, they were peddling an inferior product with an inflated price tag and couldnt compete.

I looked at them at one point, sure seemed like a lot of extra $$$ for their name. Really wasn't anything special.

I agree, probably dropped them because they weren't selling very many of them.

They did add some new auto's about the same time which I figure is where they decided to focus. Suppose to be pretty decent, if you want an auto. I exchanged a couple of emails with them on them, its pretty much a cookie cutter rifle, you can get the configs they show, really no customizations...not even a threaded barrel.

They thread on the enforcer brakes. I they use some hard core loctite on them though

The 338 they made was more inline with market price
Point but the 308 was way over priced.

I was looking at buying one after the good experiences I had with my Les Baer AR. After researching it I concluded it was not worth it and ended up buying a GAP. The biggest problem for me was that they were using a thin profile barrel. If I'm spending $3700 for a precision rifle, it better have a decent size barrel on it.

I have shot one of their 308, a family member of mine owns one. The B C stock is bulky, but the rifle is a tack driver. when Les Baer says it will shoot a 10 shot 1/2 moa group at 100 yards, their not kidding, I did it myself with this rifle shooting 168 SMK with 45grn of 4064. this rifle did sell for a high price concidering the BC stock. but the rifle itself is no piece of shit.

Big deal, my AI AE would put 10 rounds under half MOA with any type of match ammo you threw at it, FGMM and Hornady TAP 10 rounds were closer to 1/4. One ragged little whole. It only cost $3000 and was ten times the rifle a freakin R700 in a B&C medalist is.

When i talked to les bear about my 1911 build it seemed like he did not care about bolt actions when he could make semi auto guns that shot just as good. One of my friends has his 308 sniper model that shoots factory fgmm at less than 1/2 inch 10 shots. Thats still pretty frickin good

irony is...the first time I read about Les Baer ceasing production of bolt guns will also be the last time I read about Les Baer making bolt guns.

The appearance of this thread's title made it sound like nobody will be able to shoot a bolt gun anymore because Les Baer no longer make them.

It appears The Hide must've missed out this entire time. Damn.

We did not have a falling out and Les still buys some, maybe for specific contracts etc. I talked with Les a few weeks ago and he told me they are so busy building 45's that they can't keep up. They used to buy lots of bolt actions, into the hundreds.

Is it just possible that the "market" is moving into semi-auto .308's and "Bolt Gun's" in general aren't that big a market anymore for companies like L/B?

As for the price, one could take a Rem 5-R, a B&C Stock, a NF 12-42x56 NXS, assemble it into a rifle that will shoot pretty darn good and still have a couple grand left over when compared to the price of just the L/B rifle.

Im a Baer fan, I have a 1911 on order with them. However, they should stick with what they are good at.

I think it was wise to drop that line, there are simply much better rifle builders out there for the money. 90% of people will agree their rifles are simply not worth the money when considering the host of other options out there.

Their 1911's though are my favorite brand.
