LR308 barrel options?

I'm looking into building a LR308 based rig with the MATEN upper/lower set. I've got a question for you guys with custom built rigs. The only place I've found that will sell and chamber a barrel of my choice is Krieger and its around $650 for the barrel, chambered in 308 and threaded for a can. I can get a DPMS barrel obviously for around $250 but that kind of defeats the purpose of a custom rig doesn't it? or are they decent barrels?

Thanks,
Jake

What kind of barrel are you looking for?

Re: LR308 barrel options?

In addition to the above, also check out the Rainier Arms UltraMatch barrels. They are Shilen match blanks worked over by the geniuses at White Oak Armament (WOA). I have had excellent results with my Armalite pattern 16" tube from the same lineup, but they offer them for the DPMS pattern rifles as well in 16", 18", 20" and 24" lengths depending on your preference/needs. They are listed in the link below, but you probably should call them re: specific availability if they peak your interest.

See here for more info:

ETA: just read your post re: your desired bbl length. I don't believe that they have the 24" tube is stock at this time, but here's the direct length: http://www.rainierarms.com/?page=shop/detail&product_id=2233

Re: LR308 barrel options?

In my opinion, Krieger and Bartlein are the best choices. If you go with Krieger, have them chamber it and install it, if you go with Bartlein, I would call GA Precision to see if they're accepting any AR10 barrel work.

Re: LR308 barrel options?

Talked to GAP a month ago and they dont have enough barrels for their own builds.

Re: LR308 barrel options?

I went with Krieger for my LR-260. It took 4-5 months. I haven't had a chance to build the gun yet, so I can't comment on the barrel, but I've seen outstanding results from others who've also used Kriegers.

Ouch, that's kind of depressing lol. I looked at Rainer Arms but they don't the contour I want, I would prefer the heavy .936 I think it is all the way to the muzzle. Guess its either Kreiger or DPMS ><

Re: LR308 barrel options?

I have the Noveske (Pacnor) 21 inch and it is scary accurate, it achieves 1/2 MOA or better sometimes and I shot bullets from 155 to 175 and hit targets up to 1025 yds.
look them up.
hope this helps.

Fulton has a 20" semi-bull profile .936 to gas block and then 850 on out. They shoot well.

Not sure why you are dead set on having a 5+ pound barrel but it's your $$$$$.

Re: LR308 barrel options?

I mainly like the look of it. The gun is going to be heavy, no way around it and a few extra oz on 8-10lb gun wouldn't be a huge deal to me lol

But that Fulton Armory barrel does look like a really good deal, same price as the DPMS and its probably a better barrel wouldn't you think?

Re: LR308 barrel options?

The DPMS barrels aren't that bad from everything I've seen. Obviously only the people with great results want to post pictures, but I've seen quite a few .5 MOA 5-shot groups. I would definitely expect MOA or better out of it.

That said, Critereon barrels are pretty good, too. No Krieger, but I personally would take it over a DPMS, not knowing who DPMS sources barrel blanks from.

Re: LR308 barrel options?

The JP barrels are made by Wilson...I highly recommend them and the heat sinks that you can get with them as well.
