I'm relatively new here so please forgive me if this has been covered at length in other posts. I tried to search the forum and didn't turn up much. Here goes nothin':

I've currently got a Remington LTR .308 that I'm planning to re-barrel in 260 Rem. I was hoping to run either a light or medium palma at 26". However, before I order the barrel, I'd like to make sure that the stock I use will allow for the different taper without too much inletting or a gap around the barrel that looks terrible.

Do any of you guys have photos of the stock to barrel fit for either the B&C M40 or the HS PST 086 stock and a light/medium Palma contour barrel? I'm guessing both of them will likely require some stock work to fit?

Thanks in advance.

Well this was either poorly worded or just put in the wrong place. I'm hoping to have better luck by bumping this to the top...

- I understand that a Light Palma contour will likely fit either stock option... but will there be excessive gap between the stock and barrel?

- Should I just save my lunch money and spring for a Manners or similar stock that can be inlet to my specifications?

Thanks!

While I can't help you with the barrel fit questions, I would not necessarily purchase a Manners over the HS nor B&C stocks... Both stocks you mentioned have a good bedding block and are plenty stiff. If they fit your hand and are comfortable I really see no reason to spend the extra $. They may not have the features that a nice Manners does, and if you can swing the $ I would say definitely look at the Manners/McMillan route... but don't be fooled into think you NEED one of them. Best of luck I"m sure someone else will chime in here with the info you want!

what kind of shooter are you? fairly new? if so, spending the dough on a mcmillan or manners probably won't be appreciated by you for a while. bell and carlson and hs precision make good stock, plenty good for most shooters. if the money is a bit tough to come by id get the b&c or hs and spend a few years with that, itll be plenty good, and slowly save up money over that time if you really want the higher end. i look at it like this though, many fantastic shooters never had or don't have the super deluxo high end stocks and compete well. they aren't NEEDED. their advantages are fairly small all things considered, its just for those that have maximized their skills those advantages pay off in competitions and can't be found anywhere else. but you really have to be a pretty seasoned shooter to appreciate the differences between manners/mcmillan and b&c/hs in terms of a shooting platform.
