Re: base and ring set up for vortex pst

Welcome to the Hide.

We're using Farrell mounts on our rifles and EGW mounts on the LR pistols. The Farrell mount is a much better mount the EGWs but cost about 3 times as much. We're using Seekings rings with the Farrell and Leupold QRW on the EGW. The Seekins with the Farrell mount are such a precise fit they nearly snap into place with no movement. The EGW with other less expensive rings do have some movement but if you install both rings the same by slightly pushing them forward in the slots until they contact the front of the groove they should serve your purpose well. A friend just put a 6-24x50 PST on his new Savage with a EGW mount and Burris Extreme rings and they are working really well for him.

Really don't shortcut on mounts and rings if you can afford it, having a stable mounting system for your scope will make sure there is one less problem to worry about in your complete shooting package.

A 1 piece base will be better than a 2 piece. It allows for consistency and strength, more uniform. I have the same scope and am using the Vortex Precision Matched rings. I figure they were designed & manufactured by Vortex for their scopes so they must be what Vortex considers best for their product. They are quite a bit more expensive than Burris, which are good rings, but I can get pretty OCD. You will love your scope and got a lot for your money. I'm running this setup on a Savage but I would guess it will work well on a Remy. Through a switch throw lever, from Vortex, and a Flatline Ops level and ACI on it and grin from ear to ear!

Re: base and ring set up for vortex pst

thanks for the oppinions....I ended up going with the vortex percision matched rings as well and an egw 20 moa 1 piece base....hopefully that set will serve me well...the vortex rings look preaty solid....should be all set up now....if it all gets shipped on time....lead time for the scope was 5-15 days out from optics planet so we will see...

Re: base and ring set up for vortex pst

i could be wrong but i think the vortex rings are made by seekins

Re: base and ring set up for vortex pst

I'm getting the same scope and am going with the Seekins 20moa base and seekins med rings. Everything I read about Seekins is great.
I'd like to know if the Vortex rings are really made by Seekins.

Thanks

The vortex rings that look like our rings are made by us. Only thing different is the logo and packaging, they are the same in every other way.

Re: base and ring set up for vortex pst

I have the same setup on my Tikka. EGW 1 pice rail and Vortex (Seekins) PMR rings. Love this setup.

Looks like you killed it, in 1 shot!

Re: base and ring set up for vortex pst

i have a set of seekins and they are as close to perfect as you can currently find

Re: base and ring set up for vortex pst

+1 for Seekins Precision. They have a nice fit and finish.

Get a 1 piece scope base, solid 1 piece, less movement.

As for rings, get the Vortex rings as they will go look nicely with your scope, unless you like the 6/4 screw setup (pictured below), than get Seekins rings.

Here is my setup; Seekins Precision 20 moa scope base and 6/4 low rings.

Re: base and ring set up for vortex pst

The seekins look awesome. Didn't know about them until after I did a build with egw and tps rings. However, this build has actually worked out super well.

I originally went with TPS steel rings rather than aluminum. That was a mistake. The finish on the steel rings was not the best and contributed to a slightly uneven fit (perhaps requiring lapping). The aluminums worked really well though.

Re: base and ring set up for vortex pst

If anybody is looking for the Seekins rings we do have some in stock currently! Glen's stuff is pretty top notch as already mentioned...
