Hello all,

Looking at purchasing my first bolt action rifle. I am still kicking myself about my first AR purchase and don't want to make the same mistake twice.

I am seriously considering the Rem 700 SPS Tac AAC-SD. I was originally sold on 300 mag but this rifle is only available in .308. My main attraction to this gun is that I can put a muzzle break on it with little additional effort. Also the externally adjustable trigger will allow me to try out different trigger weights without going to the smith for adjustments. The heavy barrel is also nice.

Any thoughts or things I'm missing?

Basically none.

Also, this specific model is only available in .308 so I wouldn't be going .300 mag.

I think the .308 make a better first precision rig than a .300 win mag. .308 is inherently accurate and very capable of exceeding many a shooter's abilities. The Remy you're considering will serve you fine and you're likely to be very happy with it. With a .308 you really don't need a muzzle brake, but of course that's a matter of choice. Who's to say, maybe you'll want to attach a can later.

a good choice for sure. i bought the same rifle as my first, however the only part that is original now would be the receiver and bolt. at the end of the day it is still a S/A 700 so your options are endless if you decide to upgrade various components.
