Other than Glock, which other pistol in 9 should I look at for car / home use. This will not be used as a carry gun.

Do you like redheads? Do you like blondes? It is a very personal decision. I was taught on 1911s by my family and friends, and I still to this day always gravitate to the 1911. My wife LOVES her sig 226 40 but it bugs me, however a sig 220R I loved, which is sort of 1911'ish. However, I love my CZ 75! I love my Nighthawk AAC too, in fact, I don't have a "favorite". I can't have a harem, my wife is sooooo bigoted on this, so I own a lot of guns.
I like Glocks, but they aren't my favorite. You might hold a Glock and go, wow this is amazing! If your local gun dealer does CCW classes, normally they put a gob of them in the class to shoot. This is a great place to find what you like. Also, go to an indoor range, rent a few different types, don't listen to your buddy who says LAWL OWN KIMBER LAWL OWN GLOCK LAWL OWN SIG.
Hand guns are wayyyyyyy more personal than rifles, at least they are to me, I pick up a rifle and go, yeah feels good, trigger is nice, hits where it is supposed to, neat, it works. Hand guns I go, wow wait this doesn't feel natural.
I liken buying a handgun to buying ski boots for downhill skiing. WTF why does this one feel like ass, and this one feel like butter?!
And whatever you do, look at them all! There are some amazing models out now, this is a great time as a gun owner for some amazing choices.

I have a series 80 1911 45acp, glock gen2 45acp. I've had a gen 2 glock in 9 and just didn't like it. Just looking for something different. Something the wife can shoot as well. Thanks for all the imput.

Walther PPQ, sweetest trigger I have ever experienced in a striker fired pistol and the reset is amazing. I hear the P99AS is just as nice (same trigger) but i have yet to play with one. You cannot go wrong with a Glock either, or M&P. Consider how it is going to be stored. If it is going to be rattling around in the glove box you might go traditional SA/DA like a SigP226. If you are going to have it in a holster, you can get away with a striker fired gun w/o a safety. And since it is a car, you might consider a light or laser or combo. That might affect your decision.

I agree that all mentioned above are very fine and it depends on your preferences. I chose the Springfield XD platform for all of my plastic guns. The Sig (something like a 220/226/229) or Smith & Wesson M&P line are great choices, and I'd check them both out before buying something. One of them is likely to feel more natural or balanced in your hand, and will be the one to get.

M&P gets my vote but they are all nice. Go to a shop, hold them all. If you can go to a range that rents I would do that. One that may not feel the "best" may actually be the best shooter for you.

Nearly everything coming out these days is top notch and is just a matter of opinion. I would also add FNP and Springfield XD line as well. Oh also I would personally stay away from Ruger semi autos and any of that cheap Hi point, Kel tec shit.

The P99 AS can be fired from three positions of the trigger relative to the state of the striker: uncocked, cocked AS, and cocked AS with all travel removed, with pull weights moving downward from something around 12 lbs. to down to just about 3. Sigs are good and so are 1911's, but they are kind of expensive.
For the same price, get an M&P and an 870 20ga. The 20ga will be easier for the wife to handle and still packs plenty of punch for home defense. Also, consider how you are gonna carry the M&P in your car. I have some Wet Okole seat covers with a gun pocket in the front.

I have always been a 1911 guy but when my cousin started carrying a M&P on duty in Cincinnati I converted. I have a full size in the house and a compact on my belt.
