I been thinking about getting the vectronix terrapin and was on the innertube looking before I bought. Saw the newcom brand on SWFA and have seen and heard of them but that was before the terrapin came out. Has any one here had any dealings with either? I'm looking in the $2K range. If I'm not mistaken in the vectronix lineup there is the terrapin at $2K and then you make a pretty big jump up in price to the next model, where in the newcom there are a few steps along the way. I was dead set on terrapin but I want to atleast give this brand a shot. Thanks in advance.

Even with the terrapin? I know it is classed different that the rest of the vectronix? It seems to be the ticket for a hunting LRF if it performs the way it should.

    Re: Newcom Vs. Vectronix

Newcon is a piece of shit. I don't think I've ever heard good comments about them.

Vectronix is the only one who really showed up to the game to play.

    Re: Newcom Vs. Vectronix

Good to hear this. The only reason I looked at em was the price tag. I figured you got in the thousands then it should work well. Well then, vectronix it is. THanks guys. Does any one know if the terrapin works as well as its bigger brothers? I just want good readings out to say 1300 yds or so. Past that it would just be bonus readings as I won't have to much left then. And no, I don't hunt that far.

    Re: Newcom Vs. Vectronix

Every review I've heard on the Terrapin says it matches the PLRF10 in range.....and my PLRF10 ranges out 3.5km with no issues.

    Re: Newcom Vs. Vectronix

It will accurately range twice that far. 1300 is a walk in the park.

    Re: Newcom Vs. Vectronix

Glad to hear that. I have never heard a bad word about vectronix but I have had no dealing with the lil ole terrapin.

    Re: Newcom Vs. Vectronix

Ranged a hill at 2200+ standing, no tripod with a Terrapin at the Cup

    Re: Newcom Vs. Vectronix

i have a terrapin and i ranged a building with no tripod at 3051 yards. numerous other things well beyond 2k yards. ranged a palm tree (standing) at 1 mile

My lil ole terrapin has hit 4300 yards now it was a big white oil storage tank but that is as far as I have been able to get it to range.

    Re: Newcom Vs. Vectronix

had a newcon once, 2000 yard or so one. Wouldn't range 400 yards. Sent it in for repair and never heard back. Lost my money on that one. I almost forgot about that. Been over a year ago now. The money I have lost trying to be cheap....

Not really to my knowledge. Call/email them and they might be able to do a little better on the price.

    Re: Newcom Vs. Vectronix

Ok, before I buy on the terrapin I looked at their website again and was wondering if it was their best choice in their pocket sized lineup. Not wanting any thing in the VECTOR part but in the smaller (Cheaper) side. The way they were lined up on the site showed the 25 on the left side and then going 05,10,15 in that order like it was the better models. I know it sounds crazy but I hate to make a buy like this and screw it up. You know, if another one is twice as good as another one for not much more. Their site doesn't show prices.

I got my 05 (terrapin) from Europtics. They are a pleasure to deal with in whatever I have bought from them. The 05 is amazing having tried a Zeiss and Leica Geovid. Not even the same class ranging.

    Well worth the coin

    Re: Newcom Vs. Vectronix

Yup, I've recently given up on waiting for the right Binoc/LRF combo to come along. Saving my pennies for a Terrapin purchase.

    Re: Newcom Vs. Vectronix

The prices on the other models of Vectonix are WAY higher. I think the jump is something like Terrapin = $1995 PLRF10 = $5000
etc... The Terrapin is supposedly the only model aimed at the commercial (read non-military) market. The others require military style budget, but you get more features, but boy does it cost. In my mind, for precision long range shooting, the Terraping is the best value, unless your really loaded.

    Re: Newcom Vs. Vectronix

Well, that settles it. Terrapin it is. I've been looking at different LRF's for a while and I thank everyone for helping me make my decision.

    Re: Newcom Vs. Vectronix

Terrapin and never look back. It's exponentially better than my Swarovski, which was very good until I left it in the back of a golf cart.
