Roedale Precision tikka t3 barrel nut

Re: Roedale Precision tikka t3 barrel nut

I have not tried one. I will say this, the reason the barrel nut is so great for the Savage is that you can buy a pre-chambered barrel and swap it out yourself. There is no source for T3 pre-threaded/chambered barrels and the threads are different from both the Rem and the Savage. This means that you would need a gunsmith to spin you up a barrel for that nut system. You may as well just have him fit it the regular way and just go easy on the torque so you can remove it yourself. You'd need an action wrench (the wrench we have for a Rem 700 works) and a barrel vise. With the barrel nut you'd just need a spanner type wrench (possibly included?) and a headspace gauge.

Now, if a barrel maker or someone else here starts offering pre chambered barrels that work with this system and a T3, it's a good advantage.

Just wrote and asked him if these would work on a TRG action.

waiting to hear back.

I will go this route on a tikka build, just need to know how big to make the order

Would it fit in the chassis with out mods? It looks like a solution looking for a problem to me, but that is just my .02

It's a great idea, but I agree with Justin's above statements. If pre-chambered barrels were readily available then this would be a no brainer.

Re: Roedale Precision tikka t3 barrel nut

somebody has to take that first step and go through the process.

I think there are more tikka/sako folks out there that would jump all over it.

I am going to go that route on a tikka build, regardless.. just to try it out if nothing else. Mr. Lincoln offers barrels with the kit anyway, just a little pricey.

Only news I am really waiting on before ordering is if the TRG action can also be used. I think so, but want to hear it from the horses mouth. This will enable me to switch from a Savage build I have going at the same time to a Sako/Tikka build both with switch barrels.

Re: Roedale Precision tikka t3 barrel nut

The TRG is a much different thread so I doubt that the nut could be used. The same system could be used of course. It's pretty simple, all you need is a nut that's threaded the same as the action. Then when cutting the barrel you just extend the tenon threads to make extra room for the nut. Really you don't even need a barrel from Pete, you can call GAP and ask for a barrel with a TRG tenon thread that is extended another inch or so and has .125" or whatever protrusion of a go gauge from the barrel face.

Re: Roedale Precision tikka t3 barrel nut

It seems that given the tools needed it would better to have a smith spin up two barrels and go easy on the torque since the t3 doesn't use a conventional recoil lug.
