Between 260 Rem, 6.5 Creedmore or even 6.5x47, they are so ballistically similar, that if you are going to reload, which one you pick is almost academic. I know folks that have picked 6.5 Creedmore as they can buy commercial ammunition for a reasonable price and then they have the brass thereafter for reloading. A lot of people end up handloading anyway. At the moment, the availability of 6.5 Creedmore from loaded ammunition to components seems to be slightly more favorable than 260 Rem. I might steer that direction if I were deciding today. Meanwhile, I have 3 260 Remington rifles including an AW.

...and bought an AE Mk3 in 260 thanks to GOLDBEACHMAN's persistance and patience and the AE's innate tractor beam of price/features/coolness!
To top it off with 0/nada/zilch development I shot 2 non-groups of 3 rounds ea. in miserable mirage conditions at 100yds and I managed 2x .4" groups.(virgin RP brass,H4350=42gr.,140AMAX,2.80COAL)

There are no <span style="font-style: italic">objectively</span> valid dislikes regarding an AW or AE other than the price of admission, which is a personal problem, not a problem with the gun.
Today I shot out at 390, 550, 620, 800 and 1200 yards managing first round hits at each distance between an AW in 260rem and AIAWSM 300WM. They are inherently rock solid fucking hammers that are worth it.
To keep this admittedly opinionated post in line with the OP's first actual question, comparison to a Rem 700 or clone is not worth the electrons to send it.

I would assume you have not called Mile High Shooting Accessories then.
I called them and had a .243 barrel on the way to me the same day.
You may know this, but I figured it bears mentioning anyway. You don't need an "AE" barrel. AW barrels fit perfectly.

Called Mile High one month ago. Said they were going to have some .260s soon. Called them Friday, left a message and didn't get a call back. I've talked to AINA through several emails and by phone. They have the barrel that I'll will settle for but have not received the info from them I need to send them payment. I can't figure out how to get something from them. Purchased this rifle so I don't have to send it off to change barrels out.
What I've learned is you need to order way ahead of time before your barrel goes south. That's my dislike. Otherwise, I wouldn't have any other rifle.

That has more to do with blanks than anything. Call one of the barrel manufacturers and ask them how long to get a blank in the caliber and twist you want.
I am planning on ordering two more barrels this year so I can rotate them out as needed.

This is actually pretty funny. The AIAW is one of, if not the premier precision rifle available today. I own four AIAW's, two AIAWM's, two AIAX's and one AIAXM. I can't really think of anything that I dislike about any of the rifles. They look cool, they shoot great, although I have changed the barrels on most of them to change calibur. The bolt in action is extremely precise and smooth.
There is no Remington or Remington clone that comes close to the feel of an AIAW bolt. The AIAWM in .338LM holds the record for the longest confirmed kill for a stock weapon at 2,475 meters.
I would never put viporskins on any of my AI's. If any of you are doing so and wish to sale your AI skins I am interested.
All my AI's are fully adjustable, some of them have thumb screws on the cheek piece others have push buttons with a positive lock. So putting the victor spacer on the cheeck piece would defeat the purpose of having adjustability.

OP - I've owned my AW for must be getting on for 8 years - shot it in all UK weather conditions, it's never missed a beat - capable, reliable and robust.
As others have said, they can be heavy (mine has a 26" heavy target barrel) with scope, bipod, and loaded it is around 20lb...so the only think I don't like about it is having to carry it too far.
Easily the best money I have ever spent on a rifle, it will out-shoot me and (very likely) out-last me. It is one of the few rifles I would never consider parting with.
The thumbhole stock issue is a thing of the past - don't like it? Go for a Viperskin.
My GAP .308 700SA ( basically GAP's M40A1 clone with some slight tweaks) - is also a great rifle, shoots like a laser - lighter than the AW but let down by small niggly things (which are nothing to do with GAP, just the 700) like the internal magazine spring (seems very easy to over-compress) and occasional feeding issues - I am sure there are probably upgraded parts/fixes for this -but an irritation on what is otherwise an extremely accurate and well built rifle.
I have to admit that the 700's reputation for potential problems when dirty tend to make me think twice about taking it out if I know the conditions are going to be poor. No personal experience of however, just at the back of my mind.
So....I'm sure if you pick the right smith (like GAP) a 700 based custom rifle would be a great rifle...but for my money, the AW takes it due to a more robust and reliable basic design.

From day 1 I wanted an AW, my budget only allowed a Rem 700 so I used it until I put it in an AICS, still not an AW, traded it for A TRG 22 great rifle shot really well, but not an AW, so I traded the TRG, A Steyr SSG04 and an Enfield No4 for an AW.

I had a barrel blank and was going to make a barrel for it but I realized instead of being a 1.250, which my blank is, it requires a 1.450 where it threads into the refceiver. 1.450 barrels are extremely rare. So, I had to order one and it looks like about 3 - 4 months. One thing I do like is it is a completely redesigned receiver. The magazines hold 10 rounds intstead of 5. So, I guess it is a trade off.
I finally have a dislike. My new AIAX in .338LM came in the other day. Know of a situation a friend had with bolt lug deformation and had to replace the bolt body. How costly is that and how available are parts?
A rifle that heavy in a short actin cartridge is almost too much lug around, a magnum might be tolerable. My shooting situations are rarely static or prone so weight for me has to be my biggest concern for these rifles. I really doubt I could make the same shot on a running deer with an AI/AE that I made with my current rifle. Plus I'd have to sell my stinkin Jeep to own one. A $3000-$4000 increase in the last 15 years??

I found a dislike, because I'm in wonderful southern California I find myself shooting my AW more on Call Of Duty MW3 than I shoot my ACTUAL AW, gotta love Cali!

My only dislike about my AW is that since the bolt face is heat treated you can't bush the bolt. So basically I can't run my favorite caliber, which is a 6.5x47.

My AIAW pierces primers in .260 and that really detracts from an otherwise fine rifle. Since AI have started to offer .260 and 6.5 Creedmore from the factory, AI really needs to consider a bushed firing pin.
Bushing it is always an aftermarket option. You just have to find a smith that will do it for you. I have a bushed firing pin on my AW.
He would rather run to every post about AI and complain about it.
My AW1.5 has been a 260 for the last 5 years and has never pierced a primer. There are options and fixes, but I am sure complaining is much more satisfying.

Only thing I hate about my AW is the stock, I recently went to the pistol grip and its a little better. If they would make a stock more like a manners T4A it would be perfect.
