Rifle Scopes How far have you taken your NF F1 scope?

Trying to decide on waiting for a Vortex Viper PST 6-24 FFP to get in stock or picking up a NF F1 3-15 demo at a smokin price. I know there are many great options for scopes in the $2000 and up range, but for now I'd like to stay at $1400 and below.

The rifle is a Savage 110 in .338 Lapua Magnum, so a very long range rifle. At this point I only have access to 1000 yards, but am trying to find somewhere to shoot further.

My question then, is how far have you guys taken your 15 power scopes? (experience with the exact scope in question sought most of all) I have only shot to 500 before so this is unknown territory for me. How many adhere to the 1x magnification per 100 yards? Is this effective at the longer ranges?

Also, I have read that many people dial back their scopes due to mirage, and as I am in central Texas where it is regularly exceeding 100 degrees out I assume this will be an issue for me. In this case, would I most likely be using around 15x anyway, even if I could go higher?

I know that many people will say Nightforce just because of the rep, but I am more concerned about the magnification issue as the Viper PST has gotten fantastic reviews.

Thanks for your input, I am new to the long range precision game but am very excited to get into it and am glad I have found this site and it's wealth of knowledge. If 15x is enough to get to 1000 easily then I'll go with that, I can always sell the scope or put it on a smaller gun if/when I go beyond this range and 15x can't get me there.

I've reached out to 1000 with my issued F1 with H58 reticle. Couldn't follow trace as consistently as I'd like but could watch splash on steel every time. I really enjoy this scope. Buy with confidence. I don't have any experience with distances past a grand, so someone else will have to pipe up about that...

Re: How far have you taken your NF F1 scope?

I shot my old F1 beyond 1400 and had no issue seeing a submoa target. IMO the F1 is one of the best scopes on the market, you will not find a tougher, more reliable scope with those features.

If you're trying to compare the PST to the F1, don't even bother. The PST is a phillipino scope with so-so quality and mediocre glass. It doesn't even start to compare to the F1.

You better jump on those scopes quick, I believe there is only one left. I bought one yesterday, another guy from here has his name on one and it awaiting pictures of it, and one or two were already sold which only leaves one. Plus it would be nice to see somebody buy it that will actually use it than some jackwagon that's going to flip it to make a quick buck off a fellow shooter. The way I see it is that shop is hooking people up for way less than they could sell those things, people should respect that and use them.

The3-15 F1 with MLR 2.0 works great on a 338 Lapua. With 30 mils of adjustment and a little holdover you can reach way out!

Re: How far have you taken your NF F1 scope?

For me the farthest distance with hits on target has been 1300 yards but I danced all around a 24" X 33" target at about 1600 yards with my F1. You will not be let down by the F1 if you are looking for a dependable, field ready optic.

Re: How far have you taken your NF F1 scope?

I have a NF NXS 3-15 with the MLR reticle and even though it's in SFP and not an F1, I have shot as far as 1,040 yards with it. I don't have a problem seeing a 10 inch steel target or the splash with the magnification set at 10. The mirage gets bad where I shoot and when it does I don't go any higher than 10 with the magnification.

Re: How far have you taken your NF F1 scope?

I've taken an MLR F1 to 1000 but that was pushing the magnification range. Wouldn't want to go further. This was shooting a small propane tank. Don't get excited, no stories to tell. It was empty. I've taken an elk at 289 with the same scope no sweat.

Chiller you know if the Razor was available with the upgraded eye piece and EBR-2B reticle when I got my NF F1 the decision would've been a lot harder.

Re: How far have you taken your NF F1 scope?

You guys are really making me second guess myself! Which is good, as you have way more experience than I do. Research is only so good, direct questions relevant to my situation are really getting some good results though.

Funny thing is I've got a Viper PST backordered w/ sportoptics, I also ordered one of the NF F1 demo units from Eurooptic but suspect that they are all sold out. Now I'm thinking that if the NF are indeed all gone at that price, I might cancel the PST backorder and just wait another month to save for a Razor. Might as well, I still don't have brass or bullets. Bruno's said they should get some more of each in soon, but for now I'm just going to be patient with this project.

Thanks again!

Re: How far have you taken your NF F1 scope?

If you can buy a F1 for $1,400 you better jump on it. Having higher magnification is nice if the glass is good enough to use it. Otherwise it is useless for anything but reading mirage.
