I have a very nice 1911 that only engages the slide on the last shot a small amount. The lock only entends into the notch about 1/3 of the way. It always holds open so far, but is developing a small bump on the area it catches. I think it should go all the way up. I tried several mags, but all are the same. Suggestions?
    Thank you

If you push up on the Slide Stop while holding the Slide back, will the tab move up into the notch?

could be the safety/slide lock detent tube is too close to the slide lock. I have heard of this issue, I doubt a "very nice" 1911 would exhibit such defects though.

What is preventing the slide stop from moving upward? You should be able to see if you observe its operation. Start by checking if it goes up higher when the slide is removed, then install the slide and find the point of interference.

Look on the inside of the slide to see of the slide lock is binding as it moves up into position.

I had a Kimber that did that after it was hot, after lots of shooting, a gunsmith repaired it, don't remember what it was. Nice thing about a 1911, you tell a gunsmith what it is doing, they will throw out 3 things instantly of which one of them is what is wrong.

Talk to a smith, your gun is just saying, hey thanks for using me man.

If its a "very nice" 1911, I'm assuming it's a custom built one. Some of those are very finnicky. I had that problem shooting WWB ammo due to the cases not being sized consistently. Have you shot different types of ammo through it? Knowing what kind of 1911 you have may help.
