I have 2 SPS Tacticals. One in 308 and one 223. The 308 shoots real good in the hogue stock and the factory trigger set right at 2 lbs. The 308 shoots. 5 to. 6 groups with Fgmm and hornady both in 168 gr.
The 223 stays around. 75" and UP no matter what ammo i shoot. I changed the stock to a BC. What should i change next? Trigger is just ok

Re: What to upgrade first

what grain ammo are you shooting in the 223? that gun should have a 1/9 twist, so unless you are shooting super heavy bullets, it should group well. .75" is still under MOA, so that may just be the best you will get using factory ammo.

Re: What to upgrade first

50, 52, 55, 69, 75 gr. And the. 75 wouldnt be too bad if it were more consistent.

Re: What to upgrade first

First I'd start reloading, and find something that shoots better in the .223. then I'd get a better stock for both, and by then, the sickness will have infected you thoroughly, and you'll figure the rest out on your own.

Re: What to upgrade first

You'll find most people are Manners or MCM fans. That said I would agree, start reloading that will have the most impact of accuracy. If the stocks are not bedded I would try that and make use the action bolts are not hitting anything on the way up.

Really .5 to .750 is not bad for a factory gun if your shooting 5 round groups. Outside of the internet super heroes few people get much better with a factory gun. Why do you think we pay 3,500 for custom rigs?

What kind of scope is on them? Are you capable of shooting in the .3's?

Re: What to upgrade first

Personally... I would bed the stock or replace the stock. If you can pillar bed it or have someone pillar bed it, then glass bed the action and recoil lug, it will save you some $$ on a custom stock. I prefer triggers lighter than 2 lb but that is all personal preference.

Re: What to upgrade first

I have a rifle basix trigger for it. Its funny how much better the 308 shoots with hogue.
They both have cheap scopes on them. The 308 has a WOTAC and the 223 has a Konus Pro.

Re: What to upgrade first

Sometimes a gun will only shoot so well. .75 MOA is damn good. If you are dissatisfied, I'd sell it and sink that money into upgrading glass and the stock for my .308 Win. I'd rather have one great rifle exactly how I want it, than two ok guns.

You're likely going to need to replace the glass before you get into the sub .5 range.
