A little while back my Glock 32 took a nasty spill and the slide got scratched up in a few places. Naturally, It's going to get another coat of paint. My question is, how can I smooth out the scratches in the metal prior to painting the slide? They aren't too deep at all. Most of it is actually just the finish just wearing off but in a few places it has slightly dug into metal. I've got some pics here to give you a better idea of what I'm talking about. Thanks in advance for your help!

Re: Glock Slide Refinishing

200- then 400 grit sandpaper and work the metal around the gouge down to the gouge, then have someone sandblast and off to coating you go

Re: Glock Slide Refinishing

send it over to matt cheely at ccgunworks.com.....hes doin some work on my glock right now. great guy.

Re: Glock Slide Refinishing

Emery paper with a file as a backer will keep things straight and smooth.

Sandpaper should always be backed by some sort of form.

I'll get the scratches out of it, blast it with 120 aluminum oxide and H-series Cerakote it. I'll also replace your channel liner. If you want new sights, now is a good time. I'll also do your barrel and return USPS Priority Mail (insured) it back to you. How much??? I'll do it for free and have it back in the mail with-in 2 days.

I will also make this offer to 4 more people with Glock slides they want refinished. Colors I have on hand are- graphite black, tungsten, armor black, burnt bronze and prison pink. If you're interested in another color it will take me a week to get it in. I'll be placing an order in a day or two. I'll have sniper green, patriot brown and flat dark earth on that order as well.

First four posts "Me me me" wins. Then PM me if interested. </div></div>

Sawman you got yourself a deal! I'll PM you here in a second for specifics. I appreciate everybody's advice!

Me me me. I have a perfect candidate slide for this. I'd like the free refinishing plus I need to buy a new sight.

PM sent, thanks!

Re: Glock Slide Refinishing

What's the charge for someone not quick enough to get in free?

Just a reminder that there are a few paying vendors on here, not to mention the staff, that might frown upon him charging for his services.

You might want to ask him that in a PM.

Re: Glock Slide Refinishing

Nice job! Makes me think about my carry gun....one of my Glocks is Robar NP3 finished and it's great but I think I like the looks of that better.

I don't see where anyone else has asked but I"m nosy! How did you put a scratch that bad on a Glock! Looks like you were either riding a motorcycle and crashed or doing one of those Glock torture test! I'm hoping you weren't attached to the gun when it experienced the "scratch".

Pretty good guess. The gun and I actually lost it on a four wheeler coming down a hillside. Wasn't so bad. The Glock took the worst of it. What's weird is that the lower which is the polymer piece didn't have a scratch on it. The slide took it all. It' don't always end that well though.

Re: Glock Slide Refinishing

Quick question: When your prepping a glock slide for Cerakote, does one abrasive blast and cote the underside to? Also, I assume the firing pin channel liner is removed and replaced is that correct? I've been thinking of getting set up for Cerakoting and I'm trying to get a good idea of how it's done, specifically the abrasive blasting.

Re: Glock Slide Refinishing

Got my slide back on my birthday (Aug 29th), and took it right up north to my buddy's cabin. Run ran like a champ and looked awesome. I took some pics before I left. I forwarded them to Patrick. I suck at posting pics, hopefully he will post hem here. I did the grip reduction myself, and coated it with truck bed liner....

Thanks again Pat!!

Re: Glock Slide Refinishing

AND FULL GUN PICTURES!

So to start off, not only did this guy offer to work the slide (scratch removal, aluminum oxide blasting, H-series Cerakote, new parts replacement),
but also did the barrel the same way,
did my thread protector the same way,
did the slide stop, takedown lever, and frame pins the same way,
but turned it all around in only a couple days!

I took forever trying to get my good camera back and order a front sight, but here it is back on the frame!

Excellent service from sawman556, absolutely incredible finish!

Re: Glock Slide Refinishing

Sawman that looks awesome! No way in Hell I could have done that good of a job. Honestly I wasn't sure if it could look that smooth again but you nailed it. I'll post some pics of the final product when it gets to the house. Thanks again man your work is top notch!!

Re: Glock Slide Refinishing

Beautiful work. Makes me want to get my slides refinished one of those colors.

I would start with KG Gunkote as I find it cheaper and more forgiving than Cerakote.</div></div>
You got that right.
Gunkote is a great product, btw and I still use it but Cerakote is a better product albeit harder to use.
I like it (Gunkote) for touch up too.
Great work.

I do the exact same thing even when I use Cerakote for the rest of the gun. Perfect for Bolt Carrier.

Re: Glock Slide Refinishing

I sent Sawman a couple Glocks on his last "offer"

I couldnt be happier. The G-17 is Flat Dark Earth, the G-34 is Tarjac Green. He did the barrels in black. First class job. He also installed Heinie straight eight Trijicons on the 17, Sevigny comps on the 34. Great guy, work is top notch, thanks again.

Re: Glock Slide Refinishing

Sawdude,
If TRipp chromed your Slide then I was the guy who did it. Glock Slides were a bitch to chrome due to the hardness and the way the chromic acid hit them. They took longer then any other slide. I wish virgil still chromed I had fun learning from him

Re: Glock Slide Refinishing

you can make it flat by not Glass blasting after the Aluminum Oxide
I did my HK that way and it gave it a dull color. I'll have to dig it out to show.
The Bastrop fires last year really Messed him up from what I hear. He is the nicest man I have worked for and what he doesn't know about pistols is very limited.
